00:00 - 00:01
Hey high school students.
00:02 - 00:03
My name is Miss Connor and I'm gonna talk to
00:03 - 00:05
you a little bit about how you can use your
00:05 - 00:06
academic advisory.
00:07 - 00:10
Either to strengthen math and reading skills or to get
00:10 - 00:13
tutoring support from our new program called paper tutoring.
00:14 - 00:16
If you're seeing this video that means you got your
00:16 - 00:19
new academic advisory teacher, you found their classroom and you
00:19 - 00:22
were able to get onto their google classroom page to
00:22 - 00:22
access this video.
00:24 - 00:27
You should have received a small bag with new earbuds
00:27 - 00:30
in it and your my path username and password.
00:30 - 00:34
This needs to stay in the academic advisory classroom at
00:34 - 00:34
all times.
00:35 - 00:37
So we don't need to take our earbuds out.
00:37 - 00:40
We don't need to take those to other classrooms, lets
00:40 - 00:41
other students borrow them.
00:42 - 00:44
They might get lost or stolen and I can't replace
00:44 - 00:47
them if you're using your own but your own earbuds
00:48 - 00:48
totally fine.
00:48 - 00:50
Just make sure that these stay in the classroom just
00:51 - 00:52
in case something happens and you show up one day
00:53 - 00:54
and you need to borrow some.
00:56 - 00:59
So before we talk about what you can do an
00:59 - 01:01
academic advisory, I did want to visit the data that
01:02 - 01:04
we used in order to determine something that's called your
01:04 - 01:05
tier placements.
01:05 - 01:10
So right now you are demonstrating skill level at or
01:10 - 01:11
above your grade level.
01:12 - 01:14
So if you're in ninth grade you're demonstrating skill level
01:15 - 01:15
at nine or above.
01:16 - 01:18
And so we used W.
01:18 - 01:19
E. A.
01:19 - 01:22
Data in order to play students appropriately in support classes
01:23 - 01:26
and based off of your something called a writ score,
01:27 - 01:28
it told us that you were in tier one for
01:29 - 01:29
math or for reading.
01:30 - 01:32
You can also be in tier one for both of
01:32 - 01:36
those. So you are in a great spot because you
01:36 - 01:40
can use the academic advisory time to continue to progress
01:41 - 01:42
if you're 1/9 or 10th grade and you want to
01:42 - 01:45
grow stronger on skills, you can continue to do that
01:45 - 01:47
even before you ever take the A.
01:47 - 01:47
C. T.
01:48 - 01:52
Uh We also looked at teacher's feedback report cards and
01:52 - 01:54
your parents and your feedback if on skill levels.
01:57 - 01:59
So making sure that you have a right mindset.
01:59 - 02:03
When you come into academic advisory, I talked to several
02:03 - 02:05
students over the past year that felt like they were
02:05 - 02:08
missing out on learning or maybe they felt a little
02:08 - 02:12
bit behind or wondered if they were um on the
02:12 - 02:14
same grade level as they should have been during the
02:14 - 02:18
pandemic. And so part of this academic advisory time is
02:18 - 02:20
dedicated towards you catching up and feeling more confident.
02:21 - 02:24
Um And also expanding on those demonstrated mastery skills.
02:26 - 02:30
So everything on my path that is the program that
02:30 - 02:31
the yellow card connects with.
02:32 - 02:35
Everything on my path is completely individualized for you.
02:35 - 02:38
So it's based off of your test scores and what
02:38 - 02:40
you demonstrated the day that you took those tests.
02:40 - 02:42
If you've been here for several years.
02:42 - 02:45
We've looked at all of the tests passed test grades
02:45 - 02:47
to see if that is a consistent level.
02:48 - 02:50
Um So you're not going to be working on the
02:50 - 02:53
same path as your neighbor because everything is individually tailored
02:53 - 02:56
for you, which is really cool that you actually have
02:56 - 03:04
a space that is academically on level with you and
03:04 - 03:07
then to help improve you on any deficits that you
03:07 - 03:08
have, this is the my path program.
03:09 - 03:10
And so the next little video is going to kind
03:10 - 03:13
of show you what to expect when you get into
03:13 - 03:15
the my path program.
03:15 - 03:18
Anytime you want to grow your brain, anytime that you
03:18 - 03:20
want to take a look at calculation or comprehension, you
03:21 - 03:22
can log onto my path.
03:22 - 03:26
You can also do this during study halls outside of
03:26 - 03:27
school hours.
03:27 - 03:29
So on the weekends, if there's a break, you growing
03:30 - 03:32
yourself is only going to make you more of a
03:33 - 03:36
competitive candidate for colleges or for scholarships.
03:37 - 03:40
So again, the small bag, we need them to stay
03:40 - 03:41
in the academic advisory.
03:42 - 03:44
They don't need to go outside of here because we
03:44 - 03:46
want you to be set up for success.
03:47 - 03:49
If you ever do need to access my path, maybe
03:49 - 03:52
you don't need any particular tutoring, maybe you just want
03:53 - 03:56
to um to grow your confidence in a certain skill
03:56 - 03:57
level and want to hop on my path.
03:57 - 03:58
You can do that.
03:59 - 04:00
So, good luck with everything.
04:00 - 04:01
If you struggle.
04:01 - 04:04
If you get stuck on something, just give me an
04:04 - 04:08
email, it's J C O and N O R at
04:08 - 04:10
T S C S Memphis dot org and I'll help
04:11 - 04:11
you out.
04:11 - 04:12
Good luck growing your brains.
