00:01 - 00:03
Hi Ottawa Hospice Loren Bouchard here to talk to you
00:03 - 00:06
about your patient experience scores for the month of May.
00:06 - 00:07
Let's have a look.
00:08 - 00:09
Okay,
00:09 - 00:12
so you're 87.50 and I don't know why I have that
00:12 - 00:16
circled in red because you're hitting your target actually at 87.50.
00:16 - 00:18
So disregard my red circle.
00:18 - 00:20
Great job, everybody,
00:20 - 00:25
you're hitting target again two months in a row April and may both have hit targets.
00:25 - 00:27
So awesome to see that work.
00:27 - 00:32
Um and hopefully we'll just keep continuing on continuing that great work.
00:32 - 00:38
And if you look at your response rates, you'll see top box, you had 12 patients,
00:38 - 00:43
12 families give tens to give nines and then there was just a couple outliers.
00:43 - 00:45
16 and 15 there
00:46 - 00:52
Year to date. You can see you guys are at 79.35, but the arrow is moving upwards.
00:52 - 00:53
That's great.
00:53 - 00:55
We want to see that arrow going that direction
00:55 - 00:59
hospice as an entity across OSF is meeting target,
00:59 - 01:02
which is super exciting um and
01:02 - 01:08
they have been for five months. So you are a part of that and that is just tremendous.
01:08 - 01:09
So, great work.
01:09 - 01:12
I know you guys hitting target two months in a row is helping that,
01:12 - 01:16
so continue that please and um love the work.
01:16 - 01:16
You're doing.
01:16 - 01:19
That consistency of communication is really going to make a big
01:19 - 01:22
difference and um I know you guys are doing phenomenal work.
01:22 - 01:23
So keep it up
01:23 - 01:28
and then when we look at our increases and decreases greatest increases if and when
01:28 - 01:31
to give pain medication information on that Train
01:31 - 01:33
to help with trouble breathing has improved,
01:33 - 01:37
great work get help for trouble breathing information
01:37 - 01:39
on what to expect while dying and listen
01:39 - 01:43
carefully to you all have improved and look how high those scores are on those areas.
01:43 - 01:43
Now,
01:43 - 01:45
the ones that have decreased nursing
01:45 - 01:48
home hospice information work together differently,
01:48 - 01:51
trained to help with restlessness and agitation went down a little bit.
01:51 - 01:53
Help with anxiety or sadness.
01:53 - 01:57
Nursing home hospice information different and emotional support
01:57 - 01:59
received those have decreased a little bit,
01:59 - 02:02
so something to just be thinking about moving forward to
02:02 - 02:05
take with you and um just try to work on
02:06 - 02:10
priority index, index, focus areas, listening carefully,
02:10 - 02:13
really cared about your patient and then information on if and
02:13 - 02:15
when to give pain meds and we're going to look at
02:16 - 02:19
this month really cared about the patient, what does that mean?
02:19 - 02:20
What does that look like? So
02:20 - 02:24
first thing it says is providing empathy and compassion when you're
02:24 - 02:27
patient and family members share their feelings of anxiety or sadness.
02:27 - 02:29
It's just taking that moment and I think that picture
02:29 - 02:31
up on the right hand corner kind of shows that,
02:31 - 02:36
right, just really taking that moment to hone in on what is needed
02:36 - 02:38
when it comes to us. The stress and anxiety.
02:38 - 02:41
Just those feelings of just needing to be there for them
02:41 - 02:44
um maintaining a positive demeanor.
02:44 - 02:48
So just staying positive and avoiding negative influence of others,
02:48 - 02:53
help your patients and families, emotions stay in a more supportive way.
02:53 - 02:57
Um you know, there can be a lot of negative influence during this time,
02:57 - 02:59
certainly family dynamics and things
03:00 - 03:03
when we can bring it more focused on the love of your,
03:03 - 03:07
you know, their their loved one and things like that.
03:07 - 03:11
Then we can just redirect those that energy into something more positive.
03:11 - 03:14
That can be more helpful in those in those situations.
03:14 - 03:19
Make eye contact, using, giving eye contact can be a big,
03:19 - 03:23
can be a big dissatisfied or satisfy our so it's really just important
03:23 - 03:26
that we take time to just look at people in the eyes,
03:26 - 03:28
you know, because I know you guys are doing a lot of carers and things,
03:28 - 03:31
but we look up and face someone when we're talking to them.
03:31 - 03:34
It makes a huge difference, commit to sit
03:34 - 03:35
same thing.
03:35 - 03:38
If you can sit down when you're having a serious conversation about something
03:38 - 03:40
and you can sit down with someone and look at
03:40 - 03:44
them and talk and have that level conversation with them.
03:44 - 03:49
It really can put people at ease and make them feel really cared for,
03:49 - 03:50
teach back.
03:50 - 03:54
Use teach back and use open ended questions when you're doing teach back.
03:54 - 03:58
So you might say share with me what you learned today about this or or tell me
03:58 - 04:02
more about what you learned about this or tell me about this when you do that.
04:02 - 04:05
They have to tell you more and that helps you
04:05 - 04:07
understand whether or not they got it or not.
04:07 - 04:10
And then when possible speak to the patient directly.
04:10 - 04:11
You know, it was, you know,
04:11 - 04:15
I've seen care nurses and therapists and
04:15 - 04:17
texts and people who touch the patient's hand
04:17 - 04:21
even if they're not coherent and talk to the patient as they're doing things like,
04:21 - 04:26
you know, mary, I'm going to lift up your blanket and I'm going to do this, you know,
04:26 - 04:27
and um,
04:27 - 04:29
it really what that speaks to the family is
04:29 - 04:32
that you truly care about that patient and that you
04:33 - 04:36
see them as a person and that really is impactful.
04:36 - 04:40
So, you know, think about that as well and it really can make a big difference
04:41 - 04:43
last but not least comments.
04:43 - 04:48
And there were some call outs for april Andrea pastor bill Jordan and cat.
04:48 - 04:49
So great call outs,
04:49 - 04:51
There's some patient comments on the left and then
04:51 - 04:53
there's some mixed comments and then the mixed comments,
04:53 - 04:58
there can be positive comments in there and sometimes just some opportunity,
04:58 - 04:58
things mixed in.
04:58 - 04:59
So
05:00 - 05:04
if there are, you know, I think those are important to look at, think about, you know,
05:04 - 05:06
try not to think of them negatively.
05:06 - 05:09
I think those opportunity comments or things for us to
05:09 - 05:13
reflect on and just use as just that opportunities,
05:13 - 05:18
um, to um, to improve or, you know, to take with us and just
05:18 - 05:20
think about the work we do. And
05:20 - 05:24
maybe that's something I did want or maybe that's something I've seen.
05:24 - 05:25
You know, I'll make sure I
05:25 - 05:29
try something a different way, You know, that might make a difference.
05:29 - 05:34
So those little things all make a big difference. That's the feedback is helpful.
05:34 - 05:37
It's it's what we make it. So I think it's good to have feedback. So
05:37 - 05:41
that is it for me today, you guys, it was so great seeing you uh,
05:41 - 05:45
recently and getting to talk to all of you hope to get to do that again.
05:45 - 05:49
Maybe come in a few more months maybe and come to another meeting and say hello.
05:49 - 05:52
And um, but you guys have a nice june.
05:52 - 05:55
We'll definitely talk in july, enjoy your summer so far.
05:55 - 05:56
Thanks everybody, Bye, bye.
