  2. How was your weekend?
  3. I hope it was okay.
  4. Um Did you get your um did you get your
  5. presentation materials done?
  6. Did you turn in your video or whatever you have?
  7. Did you did you get that done and uploaded?
  8. Like I hoped by last night, you know, by sunday
  9. night I wanted everyone to get the material is done
  10. so that I could, hopefully I've I've already gotten them
  11. and I can start uploading them if you haven't already,
  12. make sure you do send your materials by email to
  13. me again, thomas Webster ati wa dot dot KR um
  14. Send it to me and I'll and I'll upload it
  15. onto the cyber campus and hopefully we can get all
  16. that going for the presentations.
  17. And then really if that's if we if you've done
  18. that already good job Pat yourself on the back.
  19. Uh And that means that all you need to think
  20. about then now is you need to think about uh
  21. the exam tomorrow, the final exam, and then of course
  22. you get to watch other people's presentations on Wednesday, the
  23. day after tomorrow.
  24. Okay. And that will be our last real class, you
  25. know, except for the grading where I get to talk
  26. to each of you about your grades on thursday to
  27. make sure we're all done because then I got to
  28. fly out of the fly out quickly afterwards to go
  29. to do my sabbatical.
  30. So I'm kind of excited about that, you can imagine,
  31. but but you know, you've heard when you've you know
  32. when you've got to when you've got to fly out
  33. and you're you know, you're excited about something or you're
  34. thinking about the future, you have to slow down and
  35. take your time and finish the last things that you
  36. need to do before you go.
  37. And that's true for you guys to, we're at the
  38. end of the semester and maybe you're like this month
  39. we're done and I can go enjoy my summer.
  40. So I just want to go, well hold on, slow
  41. down. Make sure you finish up right?
  42. So you get the grade that you deserve, you know
  43. that you want.
  44. Hopefully and you earn.
  45. So again take your time.
  46. Hopefully you've already uploaded the presentation materials.
  47. Uh and if you haven't, please do that by the
  48. deadline. Um Today I'm going to tell you what you
  49. need to know about the final exam.
  50. Just like I did with the midterm exam.
  51. Um I'm going to talk about the format and then
  52. kind of go over each of the articles for you.
  53. Just, just the basics of each article and and just
  54. like the midterm exam classes that we had.
  55. Um class 23 today will be these videos.
  56. And I don't I don't think I'll need four.
  57. I think it will probably be last just three I
  58. imagine. I don't know, I'm just starting this, but Uh,
  59. but I'm going to use class 23 or less than
  60. 23 For, to tell you about the exam again.
  61. And then less than 24 will be on zoom.
  62. Just like the bid term exam.
  63. I'm going to give you a chance for you to
  64. ask any questions about the article or in all of
  65. the articles that we're going to have on the exam
  66. for the anything about the exam itself.
  67. You can, you can ask me of course.
  68. You know, you can ask um in many other ways
  69. you can ask on the help board and you can
  70. ask questions by email if it's kind of more of
  71. a personal question.
  72. But I really do hope that if you do ask
  73. questions, you ask them on the help board so that
  74. other students can see your questions and my answers and
  75. it can help them too.
  76. So don't be shy.
  77. Use the help board if you have a question, but
  78. again you also have a chance to ask any questions
  79. that come up to you after when you watch these
  80. videos. Okay.
  81. And again on the fy I'll make it clear to
  82. you exactly when the time we need to meet for
  83. that. It will be the same as it was for
  84. the midterm.
  85. Okay so let's talk about the format of the final
  86. exam. The format of the exam I guess before I
  87. talk about the actual format and kind of remind you
  88. about the question types.
  89. I want to talk about the timing of the exam.
  90. The final exam will be tomorrow and it will be
  91. just like the midterm exam.
  92. It will be a two hour exam.
  93. So you have a nice comfortable space of two hours
  94. to take the exam.
  95. I hope that was enough for you for the midterm
  96. exam. I hope you were able to uh you know,
  97. to get through everything and give good answers and you
  98. feel happy with, you know, with how long it took
  99. you to do things.
  100. Uh if not take note, remember what happened on the
  101. midterm exam and adjust yourself because it's the same space
  102. you're going to see that there's, there are some changes
  103. to the exam, so it will be a little bit
  104. different. Okay, but the basic exam will be the same.
  105. Okay, It's a two hour exam and you can see
  106. here just like I reminded you, just like I told
  107. you for the midterm exam, This two hour exam is
  108. an open book style.
  109. Of course we don't have a book, but you can
  110. use any of your notes from the course.
  111. Okay. Anything, any materials that I gave you, any notes
  112. that you made yourself study questions and answers discussions that
  113. you had with other members in your group.
  114. You can look at all of that stuff okay, but
  115. you cannot talk or communicate in any way to anyone
  116. else. So that means you of course can't just talk
  117. to somebody and ask them a question on local talk.
  118. You know someone to help you.
  119. That's again that's cheating.
  120. And you're also not allowed to text like text something
  121. or even ask for something like, oh do you have
  122. this? I can't find it.
  123. Can you give me that file?
  124. No, no, everything is there.
  125. You should have your own materials and everything else is
  126. on the cyber campus.
  127. You can access it.
  128. Okay? So do not, you are not allowed to to
  129. interact or communicate with anyone uh during the exam and
  130. that includes anyone in your house to any of your
  131. family members or friends.
  132. Anyone know humans, No animals.
  133. How many ways can I say it?
  134. Um I've actually had this discussion with a student before
  135. who she said oh I didn't understand.
  136. I thought I could, I was like really you thought
  137. that no you can't communicate.
  138. You can't use your you can't interact with any other
  139. any other living creature.
  140. Okay Can you, I'm trying to think and you interact
  141. with a non living creature.
  142. Yeah, I'm going to talk about that again.
  143. You can you are allowed to go look on the
  144. internet for any information, right?
  145. You can, if you don't know the meaning of a
  146. word, you can go on dictionary dot com and look
  147. it up.
  148. If you don't know something you want to check the
  149. author's background, you can do any of that stuff.
  150. That's okay.
  151. But what you cannot do is use anything on the
  152. internet to help you create your sentences.
  153. Okay so translation programs and anything like that.
  154. Anything that you're going to use like that you cannot
  155. do it.
  156. You have to use you have to type your own
  157. sentences in english.
  158. So you cannot use you know type them in chinese
  159. or thai or Vietnamese or you can't tie that.
  160. Type them in korean any language and then get your
  161. english out and put that on the exam.
  162. You cannot do it.
  163. I may catch it if you do it.
  164. I may not if you do consequences.
  165. Very serious and get a zero.
  166. You can feel the course lots of problems.
  167. Don't do it please.
  168. Okay. Honor system.
  169. I won't be watching you.
  170. I will not be monitoring you.
  171. I will be on zoom during the exam in case
  172. you have any problems.
  173. But I will not be talking with you were watching
  174. you in any way.
  175. Just like the midterm exam.
  176. Okay. All right.
  177. The format of the exam like I said is similar
  178. very similar to the uh to the midterm but different.
  179. Uh if you look you can see that the mid
  180. the final exam is 20 questions.
  181. What? Really?
  182. Yeah. 20 questions not 25.
  183. You remember the midterm exam was 25.
  184. So good news.
  185. The final exam has five less questions but it's still
  186. two hours long.
  187. So five less questions is good.
  188. Um You can see on the on the midterm exam
  189. we had three parts to the exam but on the
  190. final exam we only have two parts.
  191. Part one is called using skills and part two is
  192. called synthesizing.
  193. And you remember both of these?
  194. Because they were the two parts two of the parts
  195. they were on the exam, they were on the midterm
  196. exam, I should say.
  197. So they're on here too.
  198. But what I've done is kind of combined the the
  199. part one from the midterm review reviewing skills and part
  200. two using skills, they're just using skills now because again,
  201. for article number eight that we had one of our
  202. four articles, I didn't really kind of guide you.
  203. So I'm not really reviewing so much for those, that's
  204. more like your kind of thing.
  205. And I'll tell you about that right now, if you
  206. notice that part one using skills, you can see that
  207. we have the article article number five is the first
  208. one where I have three questions for each of these.
  209. Should we be worried about artificial intelligence?
  210. Was article five And that's on the exam.
  211. There's, there seems to be no pattern.
  212. That's the, that was article# six.
  213. Article number seven Yeah, you can see I give you
  214. a preview there.
  215. Stop doing that.
  216. Article number seven was the board game that turns feminism
  217. into a joke.
  218. And then you notice maybe a surprise.
  219. Maybe not a surprise to uh, you see what I've
  220. done Article eight for Article# eight I gave you
  221. three choices.
  222. I gave you three possibilities for your group to work
  223. on. Guess what?
  224. I put all three of them on the exam.
  225. I'm going to ask you questions about all three.
  226. Really? Yeah, you can see how south Korea turbocharged.
  227. I was the first woman of color in space.
  228. Tesla autopilot critics say I'm going to ask you questions
  229. about all three of those three questions for each one
  230. and again I did.
  231. You did your group?
  232. Go ahead and and look at the other two.
  233. Like I recommend it.
  234. Well if you didn't, your, you can do that now.
  235. You have until tomorrow to kind of look at them.
  236. Okay. If you remember on the midterm exam, I gave
  237. you two completely new readings you've never seen before.
  238. Well now I'm not giving you new readings on the
  239. exam at all.
  240. So you have time now from when you're watching this
  241. and at least until until tomorrow, when you take the
  242. exam, you can go look at all three articles and
  243. get ready just like any.
  244. So they're kind of knew but not new.
  245. Again, I'm not helping you directly with them.
  246. You are using your toolkit yourself.
  247. So that's why this is, this whole section is kind
  248. of using skills.
  249. Okay. And the last section, part two, you can see
  250. that there are two questions for synthesizing.
  251. Not one On the midterm exam, I just gave you
  252. one synthesizing question.
  253. The last 125 for you to compare the two new
  254. readings. Well now I'm going to ask you two questions
  255. that are going to be about any of the articles
  256. that are on the exam.
  257. So I'm gonna I'm gonna ask you to think about
  258. those two or three side by side and I'll ask
  259. you some questions about it and I'm and you notice
  260. I'm not telling you the kind of question I'm asking
  261. you. So you have to read the question carefully and
  262. make sure you answer it.
  263. Okay. It's not I'm not going to just give it
  264. to you like the midterm where I said how are
  265. they similar or different?
  266. You don't know what I'm going to ask you but
  267. I am going to compare them.
  268. Okay. So you can see that the exam this time
  269. has only 20 questions and the score total is out
  270. of 80 points, not 100.
  271. And you can see part one, Part one is the
  272. main part of the exam.
  273. 72 out of the 80 points will come from the,
  274. from part one.
  275. From those three questions for each of the articles we
  276. want to we had in the in the in the
  277. course. In the second half of the course, Part two
  278. is going to be two more questions for the for
  279. the remaining eight points.
  280. Okay, so a little different.
  281. A little different here.
  282. Right, well, um just to remind you about that two
  283. part answer that you need to do on the exam
  284. and complete sentence that you do.
  285. I'll tell you, I'll go over one more time and
  286. the next we're getting near the end and the next
  287. part I'll go over it a little bit more.
  288. But generally speaking remember you need to have that two
  289. part answer for all for everything you've done in our
  290. course and by the way, I think you should do
  291. this in life.
  292. I do it and it drives my wife nuts a
  293. little bit and my son, they do it to back
  294. to me now where when we say something, we kind
  295. of explain it just a little bit unless it's so
  296. clear you don't need to.
  297. But but again, all of these questions on the exam,
  298. you need that two part answer where you say here's
  299. what I think is the right answer and sometimes there's
  300. really only one reasonable answer I think.
  301. But some often.
  302. So at least half the questions, maybe you could give
  303. a different answer and I really read them and see
  304. if they make sense with the reading.
  305. So your answer is your answer.
  306. You think it's the right answer may not be the
  307. one I think, but I'm I'm going to read it
  308. with an open mind, but I need to see why
  309. you chose that.
  310. I want to make sure that you understand why you're
  311. guessing something I don't expect.
  312. So you need that two part answer to come together
  313. to get the full point.
  314. Okay? All right.
  315. I'll tell you more about it in part two.
