What Are The
Admission
Requirements?
A Professional Degree
The demand for teachers in Alberta will continue to remain strong over the next ten years, with the highest demand for teachers around the urban areas of Calgary and Edmonton.
- A Transformation in Progress:
Alberta's K-12 Education Workforce 2012/2013
The Alberta student population will increase by over 112 000 students over the next 10 years. This expected increase in student population means the K-12 education sector is expcted to require over an additional 6500 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) certified staff.
Each year, the system will need to hire sufficient teachers to maintain acceptable student-to-certificated staff ratios. Using a projected student-to-certificated staff ratio of 17.2:1, approximately 2000 new hires will be needed in 2012/2013. This number is expected to increase to 2500 new hires in 2022.

When I came to University, I was primarily interested in Law. However, receiving an undergraduate degree is strongly advised before attempting to enter the Faculty… I realized that entering the Faculty of Education would provide more applicable skills, such as speaking and situation management, as well as be more marketable on its own…. It also provides a good career that I would be interested in if I chose not to pursue Law.

I plan to teach. Although the B. Ed degree will be used in all aspects of my life. Raising kids of my own in the future, coaching, increasing my own personal knowledge bank as well as my students’. Everyone should be a life long learner and I’m hoping that becoming a teacher will inspire me and those around me to become one.
