Transactional
Transactional leadership focuses on the role of organisation, group performance and supervision. The assumption is that:
people perform best when line management is clear
people are motivated by reward and punishment
the goal of the team members is to follow the leader
people are treated as subordinates who need to be monitored.
Transformational leadership
Transformational leadership leads to positive changes in those that follow. Transformational leaders are generally those that are energetic, enthusiastic and passionate.
Transformational leadership style:
encourages creativity
considers the individual
inspires motivation
role models and emulates the ideal.
Laissez-faire leadership style
Laissez-faire leadership is often described as delegative leadership. This leadership style is often hands-off and allows team members to make their own decisions. The laissez-faire leadership style:
provides very little guidance
provides the tools and resources
allows team members freedom to make decisions
lets team members solve their own problems.
