Bombing of Japan The locations of the bomb sites
Hiroshima
Nagasaki The Atomic bomb was used to end the war The first and to date the only use of the Atomic bomb 1945 The use of the bomb helped save the lives of untold U.S. soldiers Hiroshima and Nagasaki where both secondary targets the targets where chosen because they where virtually untouched by war The Enola Gay piloted by Lieutenant Colonel Paul Tibbets delivered what he called the "Little Boy" to Hiroshima The Little Boy was an 8000 pound bomb that could deliver the force of 12.5 kilotons of TNT The bombs destruction power would be tested on towns that had not been previously bombed The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki lead to the surrender of Japan The use of the atomic bomb showed the power of the United States The destruction that was caused by the Atomic bombs covers the thoughts of military leaders like the mushroom clouds covered Japan
They now weigh every option very carefully as to not have another repeat of the Japan bombing
