Long period waves (30-60 minutes)

Meteotsunami formation is related to very specific and comparatively rare resonant situations that lead to strong amplification of the initial open-seawaves.

Generated by short-term, small-scale (horizontal dimensions of ~100 km) disturbances that normally exist only for a few hours and cannot propagate over long distances.
