All About Abstinence
Abstinence: The fact or practice of restraining oneself from indulging in something, in this instance sex

In this presentation you will learn
why abstinence is the best way to prevent STI's and unwanted pregnancy
important speaking skills when talking to a friend about having/staying away from sex
places to get tested for STIs and other sexually transmitted diseases

Best way of preventing pregnancy
As stated by "TeensHealth", Abstinence is 100% effective in preventing pregnancy.

Practicing abstinence ensures that a female won't become pregnant because there is no opportunity for sperm to fertilize an egg.

Abstinence has no medical or hormonal side effects, plus there is no risk of unwanted pregnancy

Abstinence Prevents STIs and other sexually transmitted diseases
One main disadvantage of having sex is the potential repurcussions, including diseases and infections, some of which are incurable.

Sometimes these diseases affect a person for their entire life. Particular diseases can lead to sicknesses and, if severe and ignored, even death.

Examples of STIs include syphilis, herpes, HPV, hepatitis C, gonorrhea, HIV/AIDS, and chlamydia

What are STIs?
An STI is an infection that can be passed to another person through sexual intercourse.

Most are transmitted through sexual fluids, but some can be from skin to genital contact.

The most recent national estimates that there are approximately 19 million new cases of STIs each year, half of them among 15–24-year-olds, and that 65 million Americans have at least one viral STI.

By refraining from sex, you take away the chance of receiving and STI

Sex Speaking Skills
When a friend is thinking about having/refraining from sex, it is useful to have good speaking skills while discussing their options.
Start out by making a pros and cons list

Then discuss his/her options
(Be sure to inform your friend of the potential and serious infections and diseases that can result from sexual intercourse.)

Resolve with a solution and an idea of what he/she is going to do
Sex Speaking Skills
Discuss their options IN PERSON. This way, it will be easier for you to get your message across and for both of you to discuss your feelings regarding the situation.
Don't be afraid to hurt your friends feelings if you think it will be for their benefit.
Ex: If you think your friend is too early to have sex, don't back away from your opinion. Tell your friend how you feel and give him/her honest advice.
Tell them your opinion, but leave the final decision up to them. Don't force them to act for your approval.
Make sure your friend is making a wise decision. Don't let them be pressured by their partner to have sex before they are ready.
