Transcript of Social Media

What's social media?
Social media are media for social interaction using accessible and scalable publishing techniques.
In an Internet minute...
Facebook is the world’s largest social networking service. Users create a personal profile, add other users as friends, exchange messages, and receive automatic notifications when they update their profile. Users may join common-interest user groups, organized by workplace, school or college, or other characteristics, and categorize their friends into lists such as "People From Work" or "Close Friends".

Instagram is a free photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking app for iPhone, iPod touch, iPad & Android that enables its users to take pictures and videos, apply digital filters to them, and share them on a variety of social networking services, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr.
As of July 2013, Instagram has over 130 million registered users.
*An average of 58 photos per second are uploaded on Instagram.

A distinctive Instagram feature is that it confines photos to a square shape, similar to Kodak Instamatic and Polaroid images, in contrast to the 16:9 aspect ratio now typically used by mobile device cameras.

Users can upload photographs and short videos, connect their Instagram account to other social networking sites (which will enable the option to share uploaded photos to those sites), and follow other users' feeds.

Tumblr is a free microblogging platform and social networking service. Tumblr allows users to post multimedia and other content to a short-form blog. Users can follow other users' blogs, as well as make their blogs private. Users can connect their blogs to their Twitter and Facebook accounts, so whenever they make a post it will also be sent as a tweet and/or a status update.
As of July 2013, tumblr hosts over 125 million blogs.
*Tumblr has over 17 billion pages views a month.
Blog Management:
*Dashboard -
Through the dashboard, users are able to comment, reblog, and like posts from other blogs that appear on their dashboard. The dashboard allows the user to upload text posts, images, video, quotes, or links to their blog with a click of a button displayed at the top of the dashboard.
*Queue -
Users are able to set up a schedule to delay posts that they make. They can spread their posts over several hours or even days.
*Tags - For each post a user creates, they are able to help their audience find posts about certain topics by adding tags.
*If you want to increase chances of getting people to your blog, be sure to tag your posts.
*No need to worry if you don't get too many followers in your first few weeks; it usually takes time to build up a follower base.
