Transcript of Death of Princess Diana

PRINCESS DIANA On August 30, 1997 Princess Diana and her partner Dodi Fayed arrived in Paris, France as a stop on their way back to London, England. In the early hours of August 31st, the two left the Ritz Hotel in Paris where they were staying, and which was owned by Dodi’s father. The head of security at the Ritz, Henri Paul, had the duty of driving Diana and Dodi to their destination. A decoy car and another route was taken through a tunnel which was used in an attempt to avoid the excessive and dangerous paparazzi. Just minutes after they left the hotel, the car entered the Pont de l'Alma tunnel. As they entered, the driver lost control of the car and smashed into the wall of the tunnel. Diana was cut out of the car and rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Legacy While alive, Diana was praised for her humanitarian work, and that is what she is most remembered for by many people. Diana was involved with the people of the community and helped many others around the world. After her death, there was an outpouring of love and support from many citizens as the outside of Kesington Palace was flooded with flowers and notes. Even after 15 years of her death, people still left flowers, pictures and notes, outside the palace to honour and remember her. The work that Diana did has influenced the monarchy, as her sons have carried on her work, as they both go around the world helping many people. Her personality also has had an impact, as the monarchy has too become more involved with the people, engages in more casual events and the nature of the monarch is a lot more
light-hearted. This new dynamic was perfectly displayed at the London 2012 Summer Games, including the Queen's appearance during the opening ceremonies. Arthurs, Deborah. “Floral tributes pour in at Kensington Palace as Princess Diana is remembered

14, 2012. Princess Diana was an icon around the world and was loved by millions globally. This was evident when she was alive but even more so at her funeral. Millions of people lined the streets as a four mile procession brought her coffin to Westminster Abbey. Not only did millions line the streets, but even more watched around the world. Approximately 2.5 billion people tuned in to the televised funeral. Among people attending the funeral were politicians and celebrities, including Elton John who performed a re-worked version of his song Candle in the Wind. BBC News. Over the years, there have been may reasons proposed as to why such a tragic event occurred. Many include the idea that it was a conspiracy in which the Palace had Diana bumped off as a result of the affairs and because of who she was in a relationship with, as well as documentaries even saying that she was pregnant by with Dodi's child despite the coroner's examination discovering otherwise. Furthermore, it has been said that the Palace felt that Diana took over the spotlight and away from the royal family. When French Police finished their investigation, they concluded that the driver, Henri Paul was three times over the legal drink-drive limit and broke the speed limit. People all over the world however, still question who was responsible for the death or who was behind it all. BBC News. "Diana's Funeral Watched by Millions." BBC News On This Day, September 6, 1997.
