Transcript of MLA Format
The author comes first followed by the page number. It also comes directly after the quote, even if the quote is in the middle of a sentence.
You can also let the authors name appear in the sentence.
In Text Citations
Non Print Sources
For a non print source use the author's name, article name, website name, or film name as the signal word in the citation.
URLs are not necessary, but use them if the web page cannot be found without it.
Do not write them out fully.
e.g. CNN.com versus http://www.CNN.com
Wordsworth stated that Romantic poetry was marked by a "spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings."(263)
Romantic poetry is characterized by the "spontaneous overflow of powerful feeling." (Wordsworth 263)
For a corporate source, use an abbreviation of the corporation name.
e.g. Nat'l for National
For a text with no author, use a shortened title of the work in quotation marks for a short piece, and in italics for a longer piece.

Verbatim quotes are word-for-word quotes set off from the rest of the text with quotation marks. ("...")
The in text citation goes at the end of the quote and contains a signal phrase and the page that the quote is on in the text.
Include a citation in the bibliography about the quote.
General Guidelines For a Bibliography
The bibliography must be on a separate page at the end of your paper.
The dates must be abbreviated
You must double space your paper
When citing a website you do not need to use the URL in your bibliography
A very easy way to cite your sources using the MLA format is Easybib.
You just have to make sure that you are using the MLA format when Easybib gives you the option.
Paraphrasing is finding information in a print or non print source and restating it in your own words.
Use a signal word that tells who/what you are paraphrasing.
Use the same ideas as in the text, but in your own words.
Add in-text parenthetical reference at the end of the paraphrase.
