How can sound be used to improve your health? To answer this question we will be
studying.. Essential Question Ultrasounds
How do sound waves create the image of a baby in a sonogram?

How can sound be used to destroy tissue? In in ultrasound, a doctor will put a type of gel on your stomach and a transducer glides over it to find the baby

This ultrasound will show that the placenta is healthy and that your baby is growing properly. This type of ultrasound is a photograph and can be useful in
detecting birth defects when performed in a medical center.
Some facilities are providing this scan at the parents' request
without a specific medical indication. A moving picture
interpretation is referred to as a 4-D ultrasound. How can sound be used to destroy tissue? High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) or Focused Ultrasound is a treatment that uses precise, high intensity sound waves to break up tumors, cancer, etc. Similar to how a mangifying glass focues light on to one spot! Diagnostic Ultrasound Frequency is the number of waves that pass a specific place in a given amount of time. But HOW? The ultrasound energy is absorbed by the tissue (tumor or cancer) and converted to focused sound waves which heat up the tissue.
The temperature of the target tissue rises, destroying the tissue.
Doctors use this as a method to destroy tumors and cancers. Think , Pair, Share! (3 mins) Talk to your group about what the video was about
