-military spending increased greatly in the years prior to the war

-militarism between the Great Powers in Europe put military leaders as government ministers
-leaders refused to seek diplomatic solutions in favor of military ones
-militarism- the belief or notion that a nation should keep a powerful military and use it aggressively to promote its interests

WWI was mainly caused by the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo on June 28, 1914.

1914- Germany had one of the greatest army increases
Great Britain and Germany both increased their armies
the more one nation built uo their armies the more the other nations felt they had to do the same
- an extreme form of loyalty to one's nation

-U.S. president Woodrow Wilson announces that the U.S. will remain neutral

Allies was one of the biggest reasons WWI started. An allie was when a country would join a allience with another country and agree to defend each other. Their was the allies and the central powers, they caused WWI because if one country from the allies were to attack a country from the central powers, all the other countries would try to defend them and then it would break out into war.
