Concept Map
Definition: Photosynthesis is a process used by plants and other organisms to convert light energy, normally from the Sun, into chemical energy that can be later released to fuel the organisms' activities.
Cellular respiration is the set of metabolic reactions and processes that take place in the cells of organisms to convert biochemical energy from nutrients into adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and then release waste products.
Process
The reactions within cells which result in the synthesis of ATP using energy stored in glucose are referred to as cellular respiration. Aerobic respiration requires oxygen as the final electron acceptor. Fermentation does not require oxygen.

Cellular Respiration Role
Animals and other organisms obtain the energy available in carbohydrates through the process of cellular respiration. Cells take the carbohydrates into their cytoplasm, and through a complex series of metabolic processes, they break down the carbohydrates and release the energy.
