Transcript of 1st 2nd 3rd - Cyber Bullying + Revenge Porn (Social Media Etiquette)

Cyberbullying... What is it?
Cyberbullying is...
Cyberbullying is the use of Information Technology to harm or harass other people in a deliberate, repeated, and hostile manner. According to U.S. Legal Definitions, Cyber-bullying could be limited to posting rumors or gossips about a person in the internet bringing about hatred in other’s minds; or it may go to the extent of personally identifying victims and
publishing materials severely defaming and humiliating them
.

With the increase in use of these technologies, cyberbullying has become increasingly common, especially among teenagers. Awareness has also risen, due in part to high profile cases like the Suicide of Tyler Clementi and Amanda Todd.
Cyberbullying is
Tasteless and unbecoming
Usually committed by unknowing assailants
Has the potential for long-lasting effects
Has the potential to be easily discontinued
So nobody in the Virgin Islands has NEVER been cyber-bullied,ight?
NO!!!... NEVER!!!
What can I do?
Be a leader not a follower....don't forward revenge porn.
Don't forward cyberbullying images/posts.
The absolute safest way to not be a victim of a Revenge Porn crime, is to not make possible future revenge porn...
If you are a teenager do not take incriminating selfies.***
If you still make these selfies... be extremely careful to whom you send.
Always be careful with (written and images) posts, to Social Media
Report Cyberbullying to Facebook/Twitter/Instagram using "Report Abuse" tab
Adjust your privacy settings!
If a possible cyber bully (or bullies) is consistently engaging you, deactivate account, even if just temporarily.
Revenge Porn is
Immature, humiliating, embarrassing, hurtful and depressing... on top of this it can (finally/unfortunately) lead to...
Cyber Bullying,
Revenge Porn and Social Media Etiquette

Rotaract Club of Tortola
The Dangers of...
In conclusion...
Revenge Porn is widely becoming accepted as a criminal offense and persons considering exploiting private images/video of others should consider the ramifications
Revenge Porn sharing and posting could possibly be Child Pornography posting
This can definitely be considered Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying can be used against you as evidence for stalking and harassment in BVI law
Active Cyberbullying is poor Social Media Etiquette
Active Cyberbullying is being a
follower
... More young people and future generations need to think outside-the-box...be the
front runners, originators and the guiding persons...
Be a leader not a follower.
Be Careful!
So you love Social Media!!!
I like to watch life hacks on BuzzFeed on YouTube :P... What do you watch!?
What do you do when you are on FB? IG? SC? etc...?
What do you share? post? ... who do you "follow"?
Its okay :) to "follow" people on social media
It's better to be a LEADER in real life.
You KNOW what to do!... (duh...)
bUT what does being a leader have to do with social media?
OK! Maybe you may not know what to do... here are some tips!
Be tactful... if you want to post something you wouldn't say near your grandma or your pastor, you probably shouldn't say it on Social Media
Pictures and videos tend to go further than text... be even more careful of the pics/vids you post, especially those including images of yourself...
Use your discretion
Be mindful of the culture in which you reside... (ie. drink pics/ legal activity)****
Be kind
So... basically avoid pictures of these...
Which brings us to...
Revenge Porn
"Revenge Porn" is a legal term that describes sexually explicit material that is publicly shared online without the consent of the pictured individual with the intent to shame or embarrass the individual. Revenge porn is typically uploaded by ex-partners or hackers. Many of the images known as "Revenge Porn" tend to be pictures taken by the individuals themselves (selfies), with victims mostly being women.

Nations which have passed laws against Revenge porn include; Israel, Britain, Germany and ten states within the United States.
Revenge Porn is NOT uncommon in the BVI
20% of (or 1 out of 5) teens and 1 out of 8 adults will make or share revenge porn... the numbers are growing...
Besides the risks of embarrassment, bullying and hurt, teens have an additional issue... by making, viewing and or "passing-on" Revenge Porn they may be creating and or distributing what is known as Child Pornography.
In case you didn't know...
I don't know... but
Here are some suggestions...
Questions?
Although laws guarding against it have not passed (yet).... does not mean it does not exist.
ok, Let's not call it "Social Media"!...
Facebook (EVERYDAY)!
Instagram
Snap chat
Twitter (kinda)
YouTube
Vine

Have you ever used Social Media to make someone feel bad??
It's funny to us... but is it funny to them?
... what can we do to make this better?

Don't kill/hurt yourself for the "likes"... don't hurt/kill OTHERS for the "likes" too.
Did you know that sharing is bullying too?
In the meantime while we avoid being victims of revenge porn and also while we avoid SHARING... let's try to avoid being victims of ourselves... and try to practice good Social Media Etiquette for the long run.......
Why?
Caz you can't really "unpost" things...
Who is Amanda Todd?
If she were alive and you saw her being bullied? What would you tell Amanda?
