Medical Robots AE
Transcript of Medical Robots AE
they will be able to help doctors or complete dangerous tasks
these robots are used in the operating room
Engineers right now are actually coming up with robots that can help paralyzed patients to walk again Where is the robot used? What is its work envelope (how many degrees of freedom or flexible joints does it have)? Medical robots are used for open heart surgery because they are less invasive (meaning they don't have to cut big holes to get in the body and do the surgery)
Most medical robots have a large work envelope What are some disadvantages of medical robots? Although there are are many advantages of these amazing robots, there are disadvantages. These include:
-Having trouble adjusting to a new situation
-they have less sensing ability
- less hand-eye coordination
-they can't sense as much as humans/doctors can Is the robotic end effector multi-functional? If so, what other tasks can it perform? The robot effector on a robot like Da Vinci has a 7-degree wrist-like effector called an EndoWrist.
this feature helps the robot get to places doctors cannot reach.
Each instrument has a specific surgical mission What impact could they have? They would have a huge impact.
With the medical robots that are already being used, people are astonished.
The neuroArm robot helps doctors do complex procedures
it had help doctors remove an egg-sized cancer tumor on 21-year old Paige Nickason
Robots like this can save lives, and so much more. Predict and explain how this robot may be altered to perform more or different tasks in the future. These medical robots may be altered to perform more procedures that are either easy or hard.
open heart surgery
treating minor things like cuts and bruises.
as technology advances, these robots will be able to perform more
they will help people more than ever. Da Vinci Robot Here is an example of what Da Vinci does: Here is a video about the neuroArm robot. Fun Facts :) -The first unmanned robotic surgery was performed in Italy, in May, 2006.
-For patients, the benefits of robotic assisted surgery may include:
Decreased post-operative pain
Decreased risk of infection
Decreased use of anesthesia
Decreased blood loss
Shorter hospital stay
Quicker and more complete recovery
Faster return to normal activities. CONTENTS What do medical robots do?
