Hero areas are quickly replacing sliders as the new attention-grabbers, and they are becoming increasingly creative and elaborate.

Video in place of text
Videos are becoming easier to produce, and easier to share not on your website, but on social media as well. They are an effective way to communicate something technical or new when words just don’t cut it.
Long scrolling sites
More responsive and mobile friendly. Long scrolling pages allow the user to go back to key information. A Sticky header continues from 2013 as a design trend. User remains in context.
Simple color schemes & Simplified Content
While 2013 seemed to be the year of King Content, simpler content will dominate 2014 and beyond. Short bursts of Twitter-style content. Easy consumption.
Dropping the sidebar, Manipulated imagery, Crazy cool effects
2014 is really about Visual Boldness,
Interactivity, and Responsiveness.
