3 Focus Areas of Counseling Program Personal/Social Development Academic Development Career Development There are many ways your school counselor provides services to help students Individual Counseling The counselor can meet with students on a short term basis as needed to address any issue that is impacting a student's performance at school. Small Group Counseling The counselor facilitates small groups with students and coordinates outside agencies to conduct groups with students. Topics could include friendship/peer relations, anger management, anxiety/stress management, self-esteem, study skills, divorce, grief & loss, bullying, behavior/making good choices, or a combination of topics. Classroom Lessons The counselor meets with elementary classes at least once a month for character ed lessons or to address other issues or teacher requests.
The counselor meets with middle school classes to address career awareness, planning for the future, tolerance/bullying, prepping for high school, and other issues as needed. Special Events and Programs TAT/EZRTI 504 Plans ESL accomodations Testing Back Pack Pals Support for Teachers Help with behavior concerns and classroom management Stress relief ideas and activities Collaboration to address specific academic or social concerns Support for Parents The counselor communicates with parents via the school counseling newsletter and other announcements, as well as presenting at meetings and workshops.
