Grey's anatomy is a medical drama set at the fictional Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in Seattle. The series covers the stories of the interns and residents at the hospital as they try to balance their personal lives with the demands of their medical training. Every installment, typically, commences with a voice-over narrative from Meredith Grey, foreshadowing the theme of the episode.
Each season tends to represent the physicians' academic year, with each completed year qualifying the residents at a level higher in the surgical field. The season will always end with a finale, typically involving a tragic event such as a death or character departure. Most installments revolve around the doctors' everyday lives as surgeons, but the show puts an emphasis on their personal, rather than professional, lives. The series sets aside medical ethics concerns to focus on character development and relationships. Although the physicians treat the illnesses of their patients, often through complex surgeries, their primary motivation is customarily praise and competition.

2. Big 5 Traits
3. Maslow's Humanistic Hierarchy of Needs
McCrea-Costa found all five traits to be universal and have biologival origins.
There are "Big Five" personality characteristics: OCEAN: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extroversion, Agreeable, and Neuroticism.
Cristina's characteristics have the most apparent in Conscientiousness.
Conscientiousness is common features of this dimension include high levels of thoughtfulness, with good impulse control and goal-directed behaviors. Those high in conscientiousness tend to be organized and mindful of details.
Cristina is incredibly focused and driven even more so than the others about her medical field.
Always excited about the chance to scrub in on a surgery.
Cristina has excellent surgical skills, and is the intern with the most medical knowledge.
Extremely competitive
Whenever patients came into the emergency room, and the patients showed very rare disease or symptoms, Cristina tried to take the chart of patient at first to experience different and new surgery.
Cristina's characteristics have the least apprent in Openness.
Has difficulties conveying her feelings and dislikes being touched by anyone, including her mother.
She also has a poor bedside manner and finds it hard to empathize with most patients.
Reason of lack of openness is her childhood memory that she saw her dad died.
Unable to handle the emotional loss from the thought of losing her loved ones.
Considered the least emotional of all the interns.
When Cristina had worries about her situations and feeling during her relationship with Owen Hunt, Cristina wanted to talk with Meredith and needed consolation, but she couldn't start make conversation about her problem. Meredith kept ask Cristina what's going on, but Cristina couldn't open her mouth and share everything, even though Meredith is her only best friend.
Maslow created the Hierarchy of Needs.
It works from the bottom up: Physiological, Safety, Love/Belonging, Esteem, and Self-Actualization
It cannot skip to a higher level and Self, and only 2-3% of people are truly self -actualizing.
Cristina can fit in 4th step, Esteem.
Physically healthy, and safe.
She's a talented doctor and live in big house with her friend Alex.
She also had romantic relationship with Preston and Owen
She has many friends and best friend, Meredith Grey.
Very confident, highly desirable, passionate, talented, and great teacher for her interns.
However, she couldn't reach Self-Actualization yet, because she is having hard time to express her emotion, and sometimes she is not moral, when she stole other friends' patient.
- Freud's Psychoanalytic Approach
Behavior is determined by person's unconscious motivations.
The ego uses to deal with personal anziety, inner conflicts
Cristina has some issues of defence mechanisms.
Repression: Blocking a threatening memorey or emotion. Cristina never expressed her emotion easily to others.
Reaction Formation: Transforming emotions or thaughts into opposite feelings or behavior.
Cristina sometimes just laughing crazily, or expressed her feeling as dancing randomly, or sometimes she just make fun of people.
I would like to say that Big 5 traits is the best explains the formation of Cristina Yang's personality. Because, Big 5 traits are devided more specific than other theory, so that I could find easily traits of Cristina's personality. Also, Big 5 traits are the most exact explanation about Cristina's personality. She was very competitive and had goal-directed behaviors, which was close to Conscientiousness trait, but she had lack of Openess that she had hard time to open her feeling to her friend and life partner. As I studied and investigated her personality, I could more understand her characteristics and storyline in the TV show, Grey's Anatomy.
