Transcript of Cardiovascular System
The Cardio vascular system helps circulate materials and nutrients around the body, fights diesease, regulate body temperature, and remove some wastes from the body.
The major organs/structures of the Cardiovascular system
The heart is a large muscular organ made of fat and cardiac muscle tissue. The heart's function is to contract and relax to push the blood through the body. Blood is a tissue that carries materials around the body consisting of; plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Blood vessels are little tubes that carry blood throughout the body.
Where is the Cardiovascular system located and what other body system does it function with
The cardiovascular system is found it the chest (heart) but is also found throughout the entire body (blood and blood vessels). It functions with the Integumentary system by contracting and expanding blood vessels to regulate body temperature. The cardiovascular also functions with the respiratory system to oxygenate blood
What happens if the Cardiovascular system fails?
If the cardiovascular system fails your blood flow will stop and your muscles wont get the blood they need. Blood also contains oxygen and glucose which cells need to convert food to energy and to survive, so if the cells don't get blood they will die which will eventually kill the organism.
5 Diseases or disorders that can affect the Cardiovascular system
Coronary Artery Disease- When your arteries narrow and harden so your heart can't get oxygen or nutrients.
Hypertension- also known as high blood pressure. When your arteries narrow making your heart work harder to push blood through the vessels.
Stroke- a disorder that occurs when the arteries that give blood and oxygen to the brain get blocked causing brain cells to die.
What systems will be effected if the Cardiovascular system fails
The respiratory system will be effected because the the lungs won't get any de-oxygenated blood also the Integumantary system will loose one way of regulating body temperature (by contracting and expanding blood vessels)
What lifestyle choices can help keep this system healthy
By exercising you manage weight and reduces risk of heart conditions. Don't smoke. If you don't smoke you will keep damaging compounds out of your body that can cause heart attacks.
The function of the Cardiovascular System
De-oxygenated blood will enter the heart through the superior and inferior vena-cava, into the right atrium passed the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle passed the pulmonic valve and out through the pulmonary arteries. It then goes to the lungs to get oxygenated. Once oxygenated the blood then enters the heart through the pulmonary veins, into the left atrium passed the bicuspid/mitral valve into the left ventricle passed the aortic valve and out through the aorta.
