what is the oldest meme?
A meme known as Joseph Ducreux (Fig 1)
is used as a sort of old English meme. the picture itself dates back to 1793, but the meme dates far after that
Cultural Impact
Meme Literature
With the vast library of memes there is almost anything including meme poems (Fig 10.1, 10.2, 10.3)
the birth Memes
Memes have existed for quite some time, but got really popularized when the internet started to get big. some of the first memes consisted of De-motivational posters, (which are bad) (Fig 3) and YOUTUBEPOOP (Literal cancer) (fig 4)
where do they come from?
THE INTERNET OF COURSE!!!1!!1!
On places like
REDDIT
9GAG
TUMBLR
donald trump interviews
4CHAN
YOUTUBEPOOPZ

but, there is also another meme that dates back to the year 1997. its called: IT'S OVER 9000 (fig 2)

In more recent news, an older meme called "Pepe the frog" had been declared a hate symbol by the Anti Defamation League. initially caused by the specific image shown in (Fig 8.1, 8.2). While not initially a hate symbol, somebody turned it into that. even with all of that however, it is only officially a hate symbol if someone uses it in such a way

Due to the content I have taken the liberty to censor the text

There is also a meme that resonated this year called "Crusader memes". this takes after the idea of crusaders in the crusades, who believed in "DEUS VULT" which means "God wills it" (Fig 9.1, 9.2, 9.3). it also has themes of the goals of the crusades and technology

Fiction
To be Honest there are not exactly fiction or non fiction memes. there are only what the memes are based on (With the exception of Harambe) so I have found non fiction origins that turned into memes
