It all began in 1979. Malaysia's Father of Modernisation, Tun Mahathir Mohamad, (then the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia), mooted the idea of establishing an automotive assembling and manufacturing industry in our country.
Incorporated on May 7 1983 to manufacture, assemble and sell motor vehicles and related products (accessories, spare parts and other components)
Produced Malaysia’s first car : Proton SAGA
The name "Saga" was chosen by Ismail Jaafar, a retired military soldier, and derived from "saga" (Adenanthera pavonina), a type of seed commonly found in Malaysia.
Other model products : WAJA, SATRIA, Gti, WIRA, ISWARA, ARENA, PERDANA V6 ,JUARA and most recently EXORA

Generally consumers feel that PROTON’s engine is under power and below average.
Improvement in R&D and technology can expedite their effort by developing strategic partners to strengthen quality, manufacturing and know-how .
Eg: Perodua has develpoed its DVVT engine, but PROTON has continued using its CAMPRO engine for all the cars for decades. (NO major enhancement)
PROTON should consider partnering or engage in a joint venture with reputable engine manufactures, European (BMW, Mercedez, Renault or Peugeot) or Japan (Mitsubishi, Honda).
