Transcript of Two-step equations

By: Lizzy Frey 5 period Two-step equations Inverse operations A product of two numbers is one terms that contain the same variables raised to the same power. A operation that undoes the effect of another operation. Like terms Example
a(b + c) = ab + ac. distributive property example:3y-9=14 solving two-step equations example: 3y-9=14
+9 +9
3y= 21 first you add 9 on both sides but cross out the two 9s because the cancel each other out example: 3y=21 then you divide 3 on both sides to isolate the variable example:5y+2(9-y)=12 multi-step equations so you get your answer y=7 Example: 8c+5=4c-11 solving with variables on both sides 5y+2(9-y)=12 first you distribute the 2 to the 9 and the y 5y+18-2y=12 then you combine the like terms 3y+18=12 Now its like a two-step equation just do the same thing only subtract 18 from 12 first you subtract 4 to both side of the equation Then you subtract 5 on both sides of the equation Then you divide 4 to both sides to the equation to get your answer of c=-4 Reciprocal Distributes something out side the parentheses to inside the parentheses Example; 7x+2x=9x Example:1/9 and 9 Example:2+2-4 3 3 y=7 5y=18-2y=12 3y+18=12 3y=-6 -18 -18 3y=-6 now you divide 3 from both sides so your answer is y=-2 3 3 y=-2 I hope you know how to solve equations and can explain what the vocab is. 8c+5=4c-11 to solve a two step equation you need to First eliminate the constent by subtracting or adding
-you know which one to use by doing the opposite of the constent Next you will need to eliminate the co efficient by dividing or multiplying
-you will know which operation to do by if you see that the co efficient multiplied or divided by the variable Finally you will get your answer to solve a multistep equation you need to first need to combine like terms or use the distributive property and undo the parentheses. then you will need to do the same thing in a two step equation by First eliminate the constent by subtracting or adding
-you know which one to use by doing the opposite of the constent -4 -4 4c+5=-11 4c+5=-11 -5 - 5 4c=-16 4c=-16 4 4 c=-4 after that you will need to eliminate the co efficient by dividing or multiplying
-you will know which operation to do by if you see that the co efficient multiplied or divided by the variable finally you get your answer To solve an equation with variables on both sides you need to first get one co efficient to one side by subtracting or adding the other co efficient
-you can get this by doing the opposite of the co efficient then you you add or subtract the constant from both sides of the equation
-you can add or subtract by finding the opposite value of the constant then you divide or multiply the co efficient by the constant to get your answer
- you do the opposite operation to divide or multiply
