What's a database and where do I find it?
Note to Self:
This is pretty amazing... there's all kinds of good stuff to be found that can help me with my classes.
Humm.... what else should I know about
the McCarthy Library?
A database is a large collection of digitized articles that you can read and download 24/7 from any computer with Internet access.
Databases live on the Napa Valley College McCarthy Library webpage under
"Find Databases & Articles"
JStor stands for Journal Storage. It is great for doing academic research. Here you can find lots of scholarly articles in the humanities and social sciences.
Napa Valley College subscribes
to several different databases.
JStor is available from off-campus when you set up a MyJStor account. To reach the token link, send an email to: McCarthyLibrary.NVC@gmail.com and you'll receive instructions on how to log on remotely.
For EBSCO databases access from off-campus, the user name is: nvclibrary and the password is: books.
This is the "go to" place to begin your searching. It's a multi-disciplinary full-text
database. One of the most comprehensive around.
The OED is THE authority on the English Language
of 600,000 words past & present
This database covers all major scientific disciplines
images & animations
