SS6G8 The student will locate selected features of Europe.
a. Locate on a world and regional political- physical map: the Danube River, Rhine River, English Channel, Mediterranean Sea, European Plain, the Alps, Pyrenees, Ural Mountains, Iberian Peninsula, and Scandinavian Peninsula.
b. Locate on a world and regional political-physical map the countries of Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia, Spain, Ukraine, and United Kingdom.
The Danube river is the second longest river in Europe and the longest river in the
European Union.
It is also a major port of trade because it runs throughout

European countries.
DANUBE RIVER
The Rhine river begins high in the Swiss Alps and eventually pours out into the North Sea. It borders
Switzerland, France, Germany, and the Netherlands
and is a very important trade route for those countries.
RHINE RIVER
The English Channel is a shallow body of water that separates the southern
United Kingdom
from northern
France
.
ENGLISH CHANNEL
The Mediterranean Sea borders many European and African countries. It is a critical source of
trade, resources, and tourism for the region
.
MEDITERRANEAN SEA
EUROPEAN PLAIN
Like the mid western United States, Europe also contains a vast area of uninterrupted plain. The European Plain stretches from the
Pyrenees Mountains in northern Spain
, to the
Ural Mountains in western Russia
. Many crops and natural resources are harvested in this region.
The Alps
The Alps are located in
northern Italy
. They are a major source of tourism for the area.
The Pyrenees Mountains
The Pyrenees Mountains are a natural barrier between
Spain and France
. They also separate the
Iberian Peninsula
from the rest of Europe.
The Ural Mountains
The Ural Mountains is another European mountain range that forms a barrier. The Ural Mountains run north to south on Russia's western edge and form a barrier between
Europe and Asia
.
A peninsula is a
landmass surrounded by water on three sides
. The Iberian Peninsula is on Europe's
southwestern edge
and contains the countries of
Spain and Portugal
.
IBERIAN PENINSULA
SCANDINAVIAN PENINSULA
The Scandinavian Peninsula
is in the northernmost part of Europe. It contains the countries of
Sweden and Norway

Denmark is

part of the Scandinavian Peninsula.
