It also began to play its parts with the development of a unique Norwegian dialect, landsmål.
90% of the population were fishers and farmers.
The population grow rapidly.
There were also a large group of people that emigrated to the USA in the late 1800s.
Around 1900 people were employed at the fish canning industry
1813 Swedish forces invaded Denmark
Jan 1814 Denmark was forced to surrender Norway to Sweden.
Some Norwegians rebelled against the move led by Crown Prince Christian Frederick which was elected king later on and he also called an assembly to write a cositution.
Parliamentary system was established in 1884
women did not have the right to own anything.
in the 1882 women were given the right to receive a higher education, which wasn't permitted before.
in the 1890's women gained control over their wealth.
1913 Norwegian women became among the first in Europe to be given the vote.

The Norwegians began to rediscover a sense of their own independent cultural identity, and set about showing the world that it was a worthy international citizen.
This nascent cultural revival was evident in musical and artistic expression led by the poet Henrik Ibsen and Edvard Munch.
Population
the Norwegian folk costume 'nasjonalen' became popular in 1840 as a strong symbol for the norwegiansism movement.
people started to make a new design of the costume after Norway's independence in 1905.
Nowdays an original nasjonalen is very rare
Industrial History
Norway was still a pre-industrial country with a poorly-developed infrastructure and transportation system.
For centuries fishing was the country’s main source of income.
The earliest Norwegian factories produced soap, bricks, glass, iron or beer with a low production caused by very basic equipment.
1850-1870s advanced industrial sited began to develop.
