the highest proportional rates of traffic death and injury among all age groups
the highest death rate per km than any other group under 75 years old
a 32.4% chance to die in the summer if drinking and driving
a 40.8% chance to be seriously injured in the summer if drinking and driving
Motor vehicle crashes...
account for the leading cause of death among 16-25 year olds
have alcohol/drug impairment prevalent in 55% of the crashes
occur more often at night time
have males constitute 87% of the deaths, and 89% of the serious injuries
Cannabis-Impaired Driving
can reduce attention span
altered perception of time and distance
slow reaction times
But...
32% of teens did not consider it to be as bad as alcohol
25% of parents did not consider it as bad as drinking and driving.
A 2012 study showed that smoking cannabis 3 hours before driving nearly doubled the risk of crashing.
Mobile Phones
cause distraction from road
reduce awareness of cars around you
keeps a hand occupied
keeps mind occupied

This can be through sending messages, reading messages, receiving messages, and calling people. Even a split moment of distraction can veer you to an oncoming lane, or prevent you from seeing the light at the intersection.
Preventing Crashes and Injuries
be aware of the road at all times
check both ways before you go
check headlights
have full sleep!
don't be impaired
buckle seatbelts
respect the speed limit
drive slower in poor visibility
drive slower in harsh conditions
Alternatives
taxi service
bus
asking for a designated driver
find somewhere to stay for the night
walk home with a friend
ask someone to pick you up
have a guardian with you
drink less, sleep more
