Transcript of Central Line Reassessment

In March, BARD came back to evaluate the effectiveness of our practice change in taking care of central lines. Our aim is to reduce infection rates. This evaluation included site rounding on existing dressings and staged assessments of our dressing change, blood draw, hub maintenance, and medication administration techniques.
Areas to Improve
1. Cap Change: Scrub AROUND the injection cap where it connects to the catheter PRIOR to removing old cap.
2. Dressing Change: Remove old dressing from catheter legs TOWARDS insertion site. (See pictures in following slides.)
3. Dressing Change: Do NOT open Kit 2 until old dressing is completely removed. (See pictures in following slides.)
4. Dressing Change: Use Kits from Left to Right
