THEMES OF BIOLOGY
Organization of life
Cell. Structure and function
Stability and homestasis
Reproduction and inheritance
Evolution
Interdepence of organisms
Matter energy and organization
All organisms are made of and develop from cells
Some composed of only an single cell (unicellular) which is identical to parents.
Cell is the basic unit of life
Cells contain a set of instructions called DNA (GENETIC INFORMATION)
Cells contain specialized structures called organelles.
Biology utilizes the same principles and methods as other sciences.
We can say that Biology is a science, since it can interpret the nature.

Biology is the science of life. The term biology is taken from the Greek word "bios" meaning life and "logos" meaning study.

*The branch of science that studies the laws of life.
*The study of the origin, evolution and the properties of living things.
*The study of living organisms.

we can define biology in three different ways:
Biology I
Teacher: Rebeca Aime Luján Flores
What is biology?
The study of life
How do you know if something is alive?
All living things are made of cells
A living organism could be a one-celled bacteria or a several-celled organism such as an animal or a plant. Biological science is classified into various branches, depending upon the organisms to be studied, and is a vast field.

BIOLOGY
The science of living beings
BIOLOGY IS STUDIED BY THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD SO IT CAN INTERPRET THE NATURE
The two main areas of study in biology are
botany and zoology
. Botany is the study of plants and zoology is the study of animals. Each of these areas is subdivided into many branches
BIOLOGY RELATES WITH:
GEOGRAPHY
PHYSICS
CHEMISTRY
MATH
SO BIOLOGY IS CONSIDERED A MULTIDISCIPLINARY FIELD
Based on:
-observations
-experimentation
-analysis
In Biology there are levels of organization to make easier the study of natue
LETS TALK ABOUT THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD
The Scientific Method is a method of collecting evidence through observation, questioning, hypothesis formation, and hypothesis testing (often through experimentation). One then examines the results and forms a conclusion and repeats the process, if necessary. It is therefore a step by step approach to investigating the natural world.

These are the steps:
-M
ake an observation
-
Take notes and record all the things that you found
-
Ask a simple question about what you want to learn.
-F
orm a hypothesis to explain what you observed
-M
ake a prediction about how it is going to go.
-
Do a test with a control and variable
-Analyze the data and draw a conlcusion.
Make an observation
Ask question
Form a hypothesis
Make a prediction
Do a test or experimentation
Analyze data and draw your conclusion
Anatomy-
study of structure and form of organisms.
Bacteriology-
study of bacteria.
Biochemistry-
study of chemical substances in living organisms.
Cytology-
study of cells.

Ecology-
study of the relationships of organisms and the environment.

Embryology-
the study of the development of the individual from fertilization to birth.

Entomology-
the study of insects.

Genetics
-the study of heredity and variation.

Herpetology-
the study of reptiles.

Ichthyology-
the study of fish.
Microbiology-
the study of microbes.
Pathology
-the study of diseases.
Physiology
- the study of processes and functions in living things.
Ethology
- the study of animal behavior.

Histology
- The study of cells and tissue, a microscopic branch of anatomy.
Ornithology
- the study of birds
Paleontology
- the study of fossils and geographic evidence of prehistoric life.
