The Road to New York
By Aleksandra Plesko
Hello from Pretoria!
How did I get to be there?
Since joining the UN...
But I really wanted to work in international relations... I took, and passed, the NCE exam and became an international civil servant, working with OHCHR in Geneva!

Hi. This is me, earlier this year, speaking about human rights to 250 pupils near Hammanskraal, South Africa.
The road was long, but in one way or another, my work always went hand in hand with communication, and I was building my skills as I went along.
It all started back home, in Slovenia,
I was proud to run the OHCHR Minorities Fellowship Programme that brought minority advocates to Geneva to advocate for the rights of their communities.
where I was working as a journalist for the national broadcaster's website before moving to advertising and working on campaigns for UNICEF etc.
...thinking it might once bring me to New York, where I could showcase and use my knowledge to address a global audience.
I worked on several campaigns, prepared expert analyses, conducted research, organised events, conducted trainings...
Hope to see you soon!
