Transcript of InMobi - The Journey so Far

For a glamorous beginning!
We Moved to Mumbai
Our First Brainwave
It all started in the summer of 2006 with just an idea in our head. We decided to meet and by the end of that conversation we decided to work together.
We made our first pitch.
Our First Pitch
Our first ever Office, Home and
Collaboration space
Soon we began to be known as the Guys with a Powerpoint!
We soon had our first seed fund of $500,000

We started getting clients for Search Deals
Brand New Office!
We moved into a new 300 sq.ft. office
Burst of the Bubble!
The housing bubble finally burst, big time. Defaults on subprime mortgages — high and adjustable-interest rate home loans for people who don't qualify for the lowest market rates — had been rising slowly for a couple of years and by this summer were up
slowly for a couple of years and by this summer were up 93% from the year before. In April, New Century Financial, one of the largest subprime lenders in the U.S., filed for bankruptcy, the first of a slew of mortgage company failures.
Goodbye Harry Porter!
This summer Potter-mania crested with the July 21 debut of the seventh, final, and most satisfying book of the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. The novel came on the heels of the premier of the fifth and most highly acclaimed movie, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Deathly Hallows sold a record 8.3 million copies in its first 24 hours in the U.S.
Curtains Down!
We soon ran out of cash and began living off our credit cards. Towards the end of the year, we decided to shut down the Deals Search business!

Australian Actor found dead!
The actor Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday afternoon in an apartment in Manhattan, according to the New York City police. Some signs pointed to an accidental overdose or a suicide, although no note was found, police sources said. Mr. Ledger was 28.
On the afternoon of May 12, 2008, a 7.9-magnitude earthquake hit Sichuan Province, a mountainous region in Western China, killing about 70,000 people and leaving over 18,000 missing. Over 15 million people lived in the affected area, including almost 4 million in the city of Chengdu.

Since the Tangshan earthquake in 1976, which killed over 240,000 people, China has required that new structures withstand major quakes. But the collapse of schools, hospitals and factories in several different areas around Sichuan has raised questions about how rigorously such codes have been enforced during China's recent, epic building boom.
Hello Bangalore!
We decided to move to Bangalore and make it our new Headquarters.

The Journey So Far
2009
The 'King of Pop' bids Adieu!
Offices Across the Globe!
First Steps in Africa
mKhoj, a global mobile advertising network, has released South Africa metrics for its network that indicate mobile internet usage is surging in the country, and that the mobile advertising market in South Africa is very healthy.

Over the past six months, mKhoj claims to have delivered 5000% greater monetization levels for its publishing partners, and says its network inventory grew more than 3000% in the South African market.

The report also showed Nokia making up 39% of the market, dropping handset share of network traffic from 46% in January. Samsung currently holds 33% of the market, and rose from 20% in January. The iPhone made its entry into the market, but only contributes 0.06% of the total network traffic, making it a relatively small but growing player.

Like the passing of Princess Diana or John F. Kennedy Jr., his was an epoch-defining death, an event that announced itself in ways both large (Google News buckled under the volume of searches) and small (in New York City, bodega owners looped Thriller all weekend in tribute). On June 25, a caller summoned an ambulance to Jackson's Los Angeles mansion; the star wasn't breathing. The King of Pop was rushed to a Westwood hospital, where he was pronounced dead of cardiac arrest, the victim of a lethal cocktail of prescription pills. (In August, his death was ruled a homicide by a Los Angeles County coroner; no charges are pending.) For days, the world kept vigil, and for months after that, battles were waged over everything from Jackson's place of burial to the custody of his children. Through a summer of tributes and an autumn of fresh keepsakes, the applause did not subside.
MKhoj to InMobi
By the end of the year over 50 people in 4 offices across the globe had joined the company. By the middle of 2009, growth surpassed all expectations and we grew beyond 75 people across 4 offices in the world. We were now one of the fastest growing mobile advertising networks in the world. Here we are today, ambitious to make it big on the world scale. With that intention, we chose a new name, InMobi, that we think conveys our value proposition greatly.

Wikileaks Publishes Secret Data
After Africa, Europe!
To begin with, InMobi’s services will be available in UK, France, Germany, Italy & Spain. The expansion into new continents has been spurred by InMobi’s market growth and increased demand from publishers and advertisers for broader consumer reach. “Since our inception we have been concentrating on the Asian and African mobile ad markets. Now that we have achieved scale there, we felt it was the right time to make the leap to a global stage, given the growth we are seeing in ad budgets and the requests from our partners for both advertising and monetization in Europe. InMobi has grown tremendously in the past year, adding hundreds of top publishers and global advertisers to our global ad network,” said Naveen Tewari, Founder and CEO of InMobi.
WikiLeaks, an organization that seeks out and publishes sensitive or secret government data, dropped two considerable bombshells with the July release of 77,000 U.S. military files chronicling the war effort in Afghanistan and a larger tranche of 400,000 war logs from Iraq in October — both documenting previously unreported civilian casualties and incidents of abuse. Then WikiLeaks went veritably nuclear, leaking more than 200,000 U.S. diplomatic cables to a handful of media outlets in November. Though few of the revelations found within the cables were much of a surprise — really, there's corruption in Russia? — the leak has shaken technocrats in the world's major capitals and raised profound questions about the nature of secrecy in the digital 21st century.

HTML5 Ad Builder Sprout Acquired By InMobi
Sprout, a company that offers an easy-to-use platform for building HTML5-based ads, has been acquired by mobile ad network operator InMobi. Financial terms of the deal are not being disclosed. Sprout had raised a total of $10 million from Global Venture Capital, Polaris Venture Partners, Global Venture Capital, and Mitch Kapor.

Summer Olympics in London a Success!
China, Here we Come!
InMobi, the world’s largest independent mobile advertising network with offices on five continents, is entering Taiwan. The move into Taiwan represents the next phase in InMobi’s global expansion plans, and will allow InMobi to better serve its Taiwanese customers. “Our network data shows that Taiwan’s mobile space is growing at a rapid pace. Establishing an on-ground presence in Taiwan will let us better serve local advertisers and capitalise on that growth,” said Phalgun Raju, Regional Director and General Manager – Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan for InMobi. “We are focused on strengthening our on ground support teams to address the unique needs of the diverse regional markets.Over the next few months, we are looking to hire the best local talent with an in-depth knowledge of the Taiwanese mobile landscape and consumer preferences.
By any measure, the 2012 London Games will be considered a booming success for the United States.
When the U.S. men’s basketball team won the Olympic title Sunday, it clinched the 46th gold medal for Americans in London, marking the highest total the nation has ever taken home from a “road” Olympics. The U.S. — winners of 104 medals overall in London, easily the most of any nation — won 45 golds at Paris in 1924 and Mexico City in 1968.
“It means everything,” U.S. basketball player LeBron James said.
The final numbers for the Americans in London won’t go down as record-setting, not coming close to the 83 gold medals at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, and the 239 total from St. Louis in 1904, when U.S. athletes won roughly seven out of every eight medals awarded.
Different eras, different dynamics.

InMobi Buys Overlay Media To Improve Ad Personalization, And More
Mobile ad network InMobi continues to make use of the $200 million in financing it received in 2011 from Softbank: today it is announcing the acquisition of Overlay Media, a UK-based developer of “context-aware” computing technologies. Among other things, InMobi will use Overlay Media to improve how it targets and personalizes ads to specific users. The acquisition is the latest from InMobi, which operates platforms for rich media ads that it says reach 578 million consumers in 165 countries.
Jorge Mario Bergoglio, an Argentinean Jesuit who is the first in his order and the first from Latin America to hold the see of Peter, has been elected the 266th bishop of Rome and leader of the world's 1.2 billion Catholics.
Appearing on a balcony of St. Peter's Basilica about an hour and 10 minutes after white smoke from a chimney above the Sistine Chapel first signaled his election Wednesday, Bergoglio was introduced by his birth name with the traditional proclamation of the Latin phrase "Habemus papam" ("We have a pope").

Then came pronouncement of the choice of his papal name: Francis.

He is the first pontiff to choose the name. Jesuit Fr. Federico Lombardi, the Vatican spokesman, said the new pope chose the name in honor of the 12th-century St. Francis of Assisi, known for his simple lifestyle and dedication to the works of mercy.

A cast of 660 dancers paid tribute to the country's nature, people and football with a show around a "living" ball on the Arena de Sao Paulo pitch.
The final act saw a performance of official World Cup song "We Are One" by Jennifer Lopez and rapper Pitbull.
The month-long tournament sees 32 nations compete in 64 games.
Many fans took to the streets to sing and chant their support for Brazil as excitement built in the hours before the tournament began.
Eyes on Mobile Commerce!
You’re browsing a news application or one of the social networking sites on your smartphone. Suddenly, an advertisement pops up, peddling the fashionable pair of shoes or jeans you wanted. You click on the ad and it takes you to the ecommerce firm’s mobile app, where the eye-catching discounts tempt you into buying the shoes or jeans or both.
This is the seamless scenario that mobile advertising network InMobi is betting on. InMobi makes money by helping create, and then placing ads for brands such as Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd and Unilever Plc on mobile sites and apps. Now the company is entering the business of enabling mobile commerce—something like what Just Dial Ltd does for various businesses.
As shoppers around the world increasingly use their smartphones to buy products, InMobi is working with ecommerce firms such as eBay Inc. as well as brick-and-mortar retailers, hotels and other businesses to help them grab a share of the fast-growing mobile commerce sector. As part of the new business, InMobi is also generating money by driving downloads of mobile apps.

InMobi Named to MIT Technology Review’s 2013 50 Disruptive Companies List
InMobi, the leader in mobile-first technology platforms, and the largest independent mobile advertising network has been identified in the field of Internet and Digital Media as one of 2013’s 50 Disruptive Companies, MIT Technology Review’s annual list of the world’s most innovative technology companies.
