In the retail industry, a buyer is an individual who selects what items will be stocked in a store, based on his or her predictions about what will be popular with shoppers. Clothing Buyer Purchase merchandise for retail companies. Job Duties Study market reports, trade sales, promotion materials and visit trade shows, showrooms, factories and product design events Select the merchandise which best fits the establishment's requirement Establish and maintain contact with suppliers Completion of secondary school is required.
A university degree or college diploma in business, marketing or a related program is usually required.
Previous work experience in retail establishments is usually required. Education and Training Requirements
Sociable: The job requires knowing the point of view from its buyers and have a firm grasped of trends. Also to be successful, having strong relationships with other retailers is key. Extra Skills Organized: This career choice is very fast paced, with a large responsibility. If work is not organized, such as market reports, you will be unsuccessful. As a clothing buyer starts out they are estimated on making a litte over $40,000 a year, most likely as an assistant Average Salary As employers gain experience of 3 to 4 years, salary estimates between $68,814 and $91,800 yearly. senior merchandise buyers' annual salary may fall between $83,408 and $116,750.

As a buyer, the hours are long, and usually exhausting and stressful. It is a high pressured job, with a very busy schedule. Impacts of This Career Choice This can affect ones family life, social life, and take up a lot of personal time. Although still possible to have a family, you may not get to see them as much others. As well as friends, you will meet many interesting people. Most of your close friends will be people you work with. This career is the type where you work your way to the top. This takes a large amount of dedication, hard work, and patience in doing things that may seem below you.
