Bog Turtles By: Kristyn Introduction Hi my name is Kristyn Hand and I am
here to talk about an endangered
species that may become extinct.
And that is...... The Bog Turtle! I will
show you some facts and why we should
save them. Hope You Enjoy! Ecosystem and Biome They have more than 1 biome and 1 ecosystem. Their Biome is in the Northern US and their ecosystem is in the Southern US. Climate Bog turtles live in cold and damp places
like swamps. They are sensitive to global warming and other severe heat. So they stay cool in areas such as bogs and swamps. Life span The exact lifespan of a bog turtle is not known exact, but it is said that they can live up to either 20, 30 or 40 years latest. As they get older, they grow. Their size starts off as 5 cm and the biggest size can go up to 4.5in! Diet Bog turtles are omnivores. They eat insects and plants such as beetles, seeds, pond weeds, berries, snails, etc. Predators These animals hurt their nests their habitat and the turtles themselves. These are animals like birds, mammals, foxes, skunks, dogs, and raccoons. What is being done Bog turtles are being sent to zoos to live because the areas they live in have diseases and is being destroyed! They used to be sold as pets but that is now illegal. Now they live in zoos where they are trapped in the same box with more bog turtles. Good thing they are small! ;-) Population They are divided into 2 distinct populations Northern and southern US. Their population used to be about 10 000 but now it is down to around 2500.
