Transcript of What organ system contains the brain?

Is it possible to live without a brain?
If your brain is completely dead, then you cannot live. It is possible to be brain dead and survive with a machine. However it is only possible if the person is connected to oxygen, heart and lung machine at all times.
What organ system contains the brain?
The brain is part of the Nervous system. Its function is to send signals from one cell to another, or from one part of the body to others.
The nervous system consists of two parts: The central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system.
What are the organ’s main functions?
Much of the brain's physiological task involves receiving information from the rest of the body, interpreting that information, and then guiding the body's response to it. Types of input the brain interprets include odors, light, sounds, and pain. The brain also helps perform vital operations such as breathing, maintaining blood pressure, and releasing hormones .
How does your organ work with other systems?
Circulatory System:
All the body functions are regulated by the brain through the nervous system. Without the messages from the brain, the circulatory system does not function.
Respiratory System:
The nervous system and respiratory system depend on each other for proper physiological function. The nervous system acts to regulate and sense needed changes in respiratory rate, while the respiratory system is responsible for providing much-needed feedback regarding gas regulation.

Organ Trail: The Brain
Interesting Facts
The nervous system can transmit impulses as past as 100 meters per second
As we get older the brain loses almost one gram per year.
The left side of the brain controls the right side of the body and the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body.
Brain
Diseases/Disorders
Viral infections in which viruses may cause inflammation and swelling in the brain’s tissue.
Meningitis
:
An inflammation of the lining around the brain or spinal cord, usually due to infection; Neck stiffness, headache, fever, and confusion are common symptoms.
Brain Tumors:
Tumors can develop in the brain’s tissue and cause many problems, including preventing blood circulation in the brain. These growths may be cancerous or benign.
