Of a Clownfish
Adaptations
• The clownfish have round fins that let them make quick darting movements so they can escape from predators.
• They use camouflage by bleaching themselves so that they can hide within the tentacles of the anemone.
• They are able to
change sexes. All
clown fish are born male and develop female reproductive organs when needed. If the female in the group dies, the dominant male becomes female and breeds with one the males.
• Olfactory imprinting with the anemone that is the host which allows the Clownfish to find the right anemone that is its home.
Biome
Symbiotic Relationships
Mutualism
Jacques, the shrimp, cleans and eats the parasites off Nemo after he is put into
the dentist’s fish tank.

Clownfish living within anemones. Anemones provide food and protection for the clownfish who in turn clean debris
from the anemones.
Predation
Coral, Nemo’s mother, gets eaten by the Australian barracuda.

A blue whale eats the plankton and krill.
Commensalism
Nemo and other young fish in his explorer class ride on the back of Mr. Ray their teacher, the spotted eagle ray.

Reef near Australia.
• Normally found in shallow water reefs or sand
ranging in depths from 1 to 18 meters.
• They live among large, stinging sea anemones.
