Conclusions Recommendations 19 pedestrian, 22 drivers, 56 commuters and 3 enforcers responded Out of 100 respondents, 56% and 44% are male and female, respectively. 54% ages range from 15 – 20 years old, 24% ranges from 26 – 35 years old, 15% ranges from 36 – 45 years old, 4% ranges from 46 – 55 years old and 5% ranges from 56 – 65 years old Substandard lane width Faded pavement markings, out-of-sight traffic signs, and shoulder obstructions were observed 20,000 vehicles traveling along the avenue, majority were plying to west bound (Rizal to Metro Manila) Route 34%, with a mean of 2.85, have accorded that there are enough traffic lights and signage. A 33%, with a mean of 3.37, have accorded that the pavements are in proper condition. 30%, with a mean of 2.81, have accorded that there are sufficient number of lanes and lastly, three 23% with a mean of 3.22, have accorded that there are numerous road obstructions. 65% of the population agrees in the plenty of passenger cars with a mean of 4.36. 34% with a mean of 3.82 said that road size is narrow. 18% with a 3.78 agreed that there is inadequate number of traffic enforcement. 33% with a mean of 3.69 agreed that the drivers are undisciplined. 31% with a mean of 3.64 agreed that the commuters are undisciplined. 22% with a mean of 3.52 agreed the road obstructions can cause traffic congestion. Lastly, 18% with a mean of 3.14 are undecided or neutral regarding to the adequacy of traffic signs 56% of total respondents with a mean of 4.82, have strongly agreed that time is being wasted. 50% with a mean of 4.15, have agreed to the pollution as it affects the environment. 52% with a mean of 4.14, have agreed that the resources are wasted and 30% agreed that safety is compromised.
56% of the respondents having a mean of 4.83 strongly agreed that the road must undergo rehabilitation. 40% having a mean of 3.71 agreed that additional traffic enforcers are necessary. 32% having a mean of 3.64 agreed to provide additional traffic signs. 44% of the respondents having a mean of 3.90 agreed to construct additional alternative routes. 2. The pavement features along the avenue greatly affects in the build-up of traffic congestion due to substandard and unmaintained road features and traffic control devices. 3. The traffic flow in the avenue differs from anytime of the day. Traffic congestion occurs mainly during peak hours, 0700 to 0800 in the morning and 0600 to 0700 in the evening. There were more vehicles traversing the West bound than the East bound route 3.1 The traffic congestion along Ortigas Avenue Extension greatly affects the drivers, commuters and pedestrians as well as the traffic enforcers. 3.2 The physical condition of the road such as the substandard construction of pavement and sidewalks is one of the main factors causing the traffic congestion. 3.3 Plenty of passenger cars, narrow lanes, insufficient number of traffic enforcers, and undisciplined drivers and commuters are the main factors that cause the traffic congestion along Ortigas Avenue Extension. 1. The traffic congestion along Ortigas Avenue Extension greatly affects the drivers, commuters and pedestrians as well as the traffic enforcers. 3.4 Road rehabilitation, addition of traffic enforcers, traffic control devices and routes were the possible solutions to lessen the traffic congestion. 1. The following recommendations were intended for the improvement of physical features of the road along Ortigas Avenue Extension. a. Re-painting of pavement markings. b. Replacement of damaged barricades or medians. d. Repair of shoulders and drainage, and replacement of electrical poles. 2. Strict implementation of regulations and traffic engineering to control traffic. 2.1 Provide additional enforcer in every pedestrian lanes, loading and unloading areas 2.2 Adding traffic restrictions a. Parking Constraints b. Loading Constraints 3. Monitoring of vehicles 4. Provide alternative routes The red line represents the route coming from Antipolo City to EDSA. Private vehicles coming from Rizal may take the Sumulong Highway from Antipolo to Marcos Highway in Cainta to San Juan then exiting EDSA. The blue line represents the route coming from Imelda Avenue in Cainta, passing the Manggahan Bridge through Eulogio Amang Rodriguez Avenue in Pasig. c. Installation of traffic signs within the visibility of drivers and pedestrians plus additional traffic lights within intersections. THANK YOU!
