Transcript of Pinkalicious! Breast Cancer Awareness

Created By Summer Gallagher Pinkalicious! What are the leading causes of breast cancer? Did you know... "About 5% to 10% of breast cancers are thought to be linked to inherited changes (mutations) in certain genes."
"Breast cancer risk is higher among women whose close blood relatives have this disease... Having a mother, sister, or daughter with breast cancer about doubles a woman’s risk."
Those who have 2 to 5 drinks daily have about 1½ times the risk of women who don’t drink alcohol. Too much alcohol use is also known to increase the risk of several other types of cancer. Thanks for listening!
Bows are still on sale!
All of the money is going to a good cause What I Decided to do About It: For my project, I decided to make tape bows and bow-ties to sell at the school. My goal was to sell 50 bows and bow-ties.
All the money that I was raising was going to the: St. David's Breast Center to help them find a cure for breast cancer and to help pay for people to get treatments! St. David's Breast Center, Austin TX What was the process? First I had to make a bunch of bows! I spent a lot of time working on them! *"My personal favorite is the Superman bow/tie. I am also making cupcake bows."

*"I'm very excited about my project! "

*"I have already made a rough draft and written out my letter. I stayed up until almost 1:30 at night working on it!" Sources: www.robcares.com "About 1 in 8 U.S. women (just under 12%) will develop breast cancer over the course of her lifetime."
"In 2011, an estimated 230,480 new cases of breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S."
"A man’s lifetime risk of breast cancer is about 1 in 1,000."
"From 1999 to 2005, breast cancer incidence rates in the U.S. decreased by about 2% per year." For my project I decided to study Breast Cancer.
So I looked up

Superman Bow www.istockphoto.com Then I started to sell the bows and bow ties that I made! I started to sell them for a dollar each. A lot buy of people liked them. I decided that I would like to sell longer so that more people would be able to help raise money for breast cancer patients. www.cbsnews.com Notes from my Journal: http://www.cancer.org/cancer/breastcancer/detailedguide/breast-cancer-risk-factors http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/understand_bc/statistics Summer Gallagher 2012-2013 www.jewel-collection.net blog.consumerbell.com
