What is the Space Race ?
The Space Race was a competition between the USA and the USSR to explore space using artificial satellites and manned spacecraft.
When/ Where ?
Who was Involved?
The Space Race during the 20Th-century competition between two Cold War rivals, the Soviet Union and the United States, for supremacy in spaceflight capability.
Sputnik 1
Humans on space
the space race occurred during 1957 – 1975. the space race occurred in both the united states and the soviet union

Sputnik 1 was the first artificial earth satellite. Sputnik was launched by the soviet union on October 4, 1957, at 7:28 pm. the satellite was a 58 cm diameter polished metal sphere, with four external radio antennae to broadcast radio pulses.


Luna 2
Luna 2 or also known as Lunik 2 was launched on September 13, 1959. It was the first spacecraft to ever reach the surface of the moon. It was also the first man-made object to land on another outer space body. It was launched by the Soviet Union.
Alan Shepard, an American naval officer and aviator, test pilot, one of the original NASA Mercury Seven astronauts, and businessman, who in May 1961 became the second man on space but the first american in space.
Yuri Gagarin a Russian Soviet pilot and cosmonaut. He was the first human to journey into outer space, his Vostok spacecraft completed an orbit of the Earth on 12 April 1961.
