German Music & Culture
Germany has a rich music history in music, claiming some of the most renowned composers in the world. Choral music, opera, Folk music, and orchestral music all hold strong traditions in Germany.
Classical Period
1750-1800
W.A. Mozart set a standard for the classical period and all other musical eras to come.
Romantic Period
1800-1900
Lieder (Song): Traditional German poetry set to music. Focus is on the poetry, not the music.
20th Century Music
Composers such as Richard Strauss, Gustav Mahler, Arnold Schoenberg, Anton Webern, Carl Orff, and Kurt Weill carried the German music tradition into the 20th Century.
German Opera
Baroque Period
1600-1750
German composer Johann Sebastian Bach is one of the most influential composers in the baroque period.

German Music
Ludwig van Beethoven was an important figure in the transitions between the classical and romantic periods.
