Activity: Theories of team development
Everyone who works in a team needs to know what the various growth stages of a developing team are and they should know how best to move the team through these stages. Knowing that it is normal for a team to go through a roller coaster ride to achieve their goal will help you understand and anticipate the team-building process, and take action to be more productive when working in groups in the future.

Building an effective team is not easy. It involves enlisting the right people with the right skills in the right place within the team.

Each person in a team usually has a specific role to play, such as leader, expert, researcher or team player, and each role is equally important. There have been several well-known and detailed research studies on team roles, such as those carried out by Bruce Tuckman, Peter Honey and Meredith Belbin.
