Mitosis is the process by
which two daughter cells are formed,
each containing a complete set of chromosomes.

sides of the cell. Telophase The chromosomes eventuallly reach the
opposite poles and a nuclear envelope
returns before the spindle fibers
disintegrate. Cytokinesis In this phase the cell divides into
two separate cells.

and pinches in the middle to form

Period 1 3-5-13 There are four phases in mitosis and they follow
after interphase. Prophase The two halves of the structure are called sister chromatids because one of the chromatids was cloned during interphase. Toward the end of prophase the membrane begins to disappear so it's ready for the next step. To some people this may also be known as Prometaphase. The spindle fibers attatch to the centromeres
of the chromosomes.

The chromosomes align at the prime meridian or down the middle.

The centrioles go to opposite poles. The spindle fibers are lining up so they can be prepared to pulled apart. Bi in binary fission means two and fission means to split.
It is the same thing as mitosis, but it doesn't include all of the steps that mitosis takes. It is also only involved in Prokaryotic cells while Mitosis is only involved with Eukaryotic cells. Binary fission is the process by which some
prokaryotes reproduce asexually, producing
two gentically identical, unicellular organisms. During binary fission the prokaryotes single-stranded molecule of nucleic acid, DNA or RNA, begins to replicate. In doing so the molecule elongates, pushing the edges of the cell further apart. When the replication is complete the two molecules split and the cell membrane begins to cleave,

its size. Synthesis or S: The DNA is replicated
and the chromosomes prepare
for Mitosis. G2 or Gap 2: The centrioles, spindle fibers and centromeres are all being prepared for mitosis. These chromosomes are X shaped and have two
