As a new credit manager, you are being trained by the outgoing manager. She explains that the system prepares checks for amounts net of favorable cash discounts, and the checks are dated the last day of the discount period. She also tells you that checks are not mailed until five days later, adding that “the company gets free use of cash for an extra five days, and our department looks better. When a supplier complains, we blame the computer system and the mailroom.” Do you continue this payment policy?

Business Ethics
Let's compare between two Ads..
Unethical:
Direct comparison with iPhone
Displaying weak points of the competition
Claiming Samsung SII is the best
Ethical
No comparison with any competitor
Comparison of size with Eiffel Tower
Claim that you have better viewing facility with bigger screen
Association with Microsoft
Utilitarian: This ad brings displeasure to more and happiness to less and is therefore unethical
Samsung SII,
Solution I
The Approach,
Consult with the head of department if late payment is a policy of company
See which suppliers are giving better service and also complaining regularly
Process their payments on time
Advantage,
Good will
Positive rapport with the supplier
Ethical Issues,
Ethical Implications
Deontology:
We are not falsifying data. There is no fraud involved. As we will be processing some priority suppliers’ checks it will build a positive relationship. This solution would be ethical.

Solution II
Approach,
Consult with the head of department if late payment is a policy of company
See if there are any major financial/accounting drawbacks of giving the net amount on time
If not, start paying the suppliers on time
Ethical Implications
Utilitarian:
This approach would make most of the concerned happy and less displeased. In utilitarian theory this would be the most ethical solution.
Ethics in Human Resource
Code of conduct is the set of rules that outline the responsibilities set down for the employee to follow in the workplace environment.
