Born on July 31, 1965, in Chipping Sodbury, England
Moved around a lot as a kid, started in Winterbourne, England then moved to Yate where she met her two best friends Vikki and Ian Potter who became the inspiration for Harry Potter's last name
She always loved reading in school, but did not enjoy participating in sports
Her mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and died in December of 1990
J.K. Rowling moved to Portugal and married Jorge Arantes in 1992 and had a daughter with him
Divorced in 1993 and moved back to England as a single mom
In 1996, a publisher agreed to print her first book,
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
and paid 1,500 Euros upfront

After the divorce of her first marriage with Jorge Arantes, J.K. Rowling moved from Portugal back to England
Single mother of Jessica Arantes
Moved to be by sister Dianne for support
Struggled with finances with her low income

Over 400 million copies of Harry Potter have been sold worldwide placing J.K. Rowling on the Forbes Billionaires List.
Because J.K. Rowling has donated an estimated amount of $160 million dollars to charity, she is no longer officially a billionaire. It never concerned her and she is happier being beyond generous and using her wealth to help those less fortunate.
