Oedipus the king
Timeline jocasta gave birth to Oedipus Laius pierces Oedipus ankles and leaves him at the mountainside to die 2nd messenger of king Polybus receives Oedipus from a shepherd, who in turn gets him from Jocasta, and takes him in to Corinth. Oedipus asks Polybus and Merope, his supposed parents, if he was their true son after hearing differently Oedipus goes to an oracle and is told the prophecy of him Oedipus flees Corinth in fear of the prophecy The Sphinx takes over Thebes King Laius goes to Delphi to get help to overcome the Sphinx. While on the road, he gets killed accidentally by Oedipus. Oedipus solves the Sphinxs riddle and becomes King of Thebes. Oedipus sends Creon to the oracle at Delphi. Creon comes back with message that the murderer of Laius is in Thebes. Teiresias comes on Oedipus request and fights with him. Teiresias says that he is the pollution of Thebes. Oedipus accuses Creon of getting Teiresias to tell lies about him in order to steal his throne, which is treason. Messenger of King Polybus arrives to tell Oedipus of his death and then says that Polybus wasnt his father. The shepherd comes who finds him and verifies that Oedipus finds out that he had killed his father and married his mother, just like the prophecy said. • Jocasta hangs herself because of the truth and Oedipus blinds himself by stabbing his eyes with a brooch.
