Filipino Values Definition Care for the aged Tungkulin ng panganay Pakikialam Paggalang sa yumao Authoritarianism Ritual Kinship Respect to elders and superiors. Elders and superiors are held in high esteem. Much value is given to seniority; less on one’s ability or skill. One’s judgement or opinion, even if objectively better is silenced in deference to that of higher authority. the value that makes the young responsible for the welfare of the aged or the elderly, especially those who are physically and mentally weak. in the Filipino family, the eldest child who is next-in-rank to the parents, is expected to act and think like the parents. The care of the younger members of the family and even of the parents in their old age is his responsibility. This value impedes the growth of individual independence, the eldest son’s endeavour become limited to his own family to the exclusion of the community or the nation. it is the tendency to meddle in the business of others sometimes under the pretext of guidance and wisdom. it is the respect for the dead and his accessories is very prevalent in the Philippines because he is remembered for the good things he did when he was still alive. regarding godparents as substitute to parents. Paggalang it is the value that pertains to power and domination over a particular group or individual. Traditionalism feeling secure and satisfied when doing things the old way. Use of respect term “po”, “opo”, “ho”, “kuya”, “ate”, etc are expressions used and delivered in deferential manner of communication. pakikisama hiya bahala na lamangan machismo pagwawalang bahala pagmamay-ari the end =) Picture the scene
