What to do with struggling students?
RTI at MHJH

PURPOSE AND OUTCOMES:
Create a common language and protocol for helping students who are struggling with academics and behavior

Answer questions about the process to better equip staff with strategies for helping struggling students
FOUNDATION
All students receive classroom instruction, universal screening, and assessments
Extra help during advisory (more planned, focused)
After School Tutoring/Homework Club
Placement in Language Skills
Placement in Math Skills
Think Through Math
Small Group Testing
Behavioral/Academic Plan
If RTI fails to help a student across 12 weeks of interventions, MDT will discuss the potential for a Special Education referral.
WHAT TO DO:
Bring the student info to team collaboration meetings.
Document the intervention(s) you try in Mileposts.
If Tier I interventions do not help, refer to RTI committee.
WHAT TO DO:
The RTI committee will review Mileposts to see the interventions already provided.
An intervention plan will be developed and shared--if you have a role in the plan, you will be included in developing the plan
The student will be tested for growth bi-weekly for 6 weeks.
If the data does not show growth, move to Tier III.
WHAT TO DO:
The plan will be revised, new interventions added.
The student will be tested weekly for 6 weeks.
