Until 1942, Cu Hill was designed to build a 9-hole golf course which has been quite famous in the South East Asia. Then it was upgraded to be a 18-hole golf course.
There are two explanations for the name “Cu Hill”:
- First, because it had some small hills which looked like the backs of sheep. “Sheep” in Vietnamese means “Cuu” and people pronounced to “Cu”.
- Second, because it had ever been the place for play golf, a sport only for patricians playing that Vietnamese called it “Cu sport”. Also, King Bao Dai used to come there together with French officials to play golf. So, people called it “Cu Hill”.
After 1975, people didn’t play golf any more. It became a place for local people and tourists playing and camping. It was also the romantic place for lovers. Until 1991, Cu Hill was officially approved to build a 18-hole golf course.
It was launched on Feb 24, 1994. For many times, it has been voted one of the Golf courses with the most beautiful view of Vietnam.
