Art 10 Tim Burton
Transcript of Art 10 Tim Burton
As a young man, Burton made short films in his backyard using stop motion animation, and a 8mm
film without sound. His most famous of these films is " The Island of Doctor Agor" made at the age of 13.
Burton studied at the Burbank High School, but was a introspective type of person and was found constantly painting, drawing, and watching films.
Edgar Allen Poe, heavily influenced Burton, as did all the science fiction films he watched, like Godzilla, The films made by Hammer Film Productions, The works of Ray Harryhausen and also Vincent Price.
After graduation at Burbank High, Tim attended California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts) and studdied Character Animation. At Cal Arts, he made a few short films called "Stalk of the Celebrity Monster" and "King and Octopus", now both remain in fragments today.
When Burton Graduated from Cal Arts, His short "Stalk of the Celebrity Monster" had caught the attention of the Walt Disney Animation Studios and had offerred Burton an Animator's Apprentiship at the studio. He worked at Disney on projects such as "The Fox and The Hound", "The Black Cauldron", and "Tron" as an animator, storyboard artist, and concept artist. Burton's personal artistic style clashed with Disney's standards and he wanted to work independantly on projects. In 1982, Burton made his first featured short while at Disney, Titled "Vincent". It is a 6 minute long, Black and white, claymated, poem based film narrated by Vincent Price about a young Boy who fantasizes that he is his hero, Vincent Price. Later on Burton did his first live action production "Hansel and Grettle". This short was so hard to find that there were rumours it didn't exist. The short later was on display in some art shows.
His seccond live action short, "Frankenweenie", was about a boy who tries to bring his dog back to life after it was hit by a car. Disney thought it would be too scary for children so they fired Burton after it was completed. After he was fired, Burton started creating his big full length feature films, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Beetle Juice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Ed Wood, Mars Attacks, Sleepy Hallow, Planet of the Apes, Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Corpse Bride, Sweeny Todd, and Alice and Wonderland.
Today Burton is currently working on his up comming films, Dark Shadows, and a recreation of Frankenweenie both to be relesed this year.
