Indirect Measure
Record whether the behavior was present or absent at any
time during the observation interval (you are not concerned about the number of times the behavior occurred). Results in an overestimation of a behavior.
Planned Activity Check
A variation of momentary time sampling. Measures behavior of individuals in a group.

Discontinuous Measure
Discontinuous (indirect) measures are
those that capture only a
sample of behavior during an
observation
Whole Interval
Indirect Measure
The behavior is only recorded if it occurs throughout the entire interval. Results in an underestimation of behavior.
This method is useful for determining how often a behavior occurred given the opportunity (proportion of correct to incorrect responses or proportion of observational intervals when behavior occurred). This is a derivative measure.

Time Sample
Record whether a target behavior is occurring at
the end of a pre-determined interval. Reported as
percentage of intervals in when behavior occurred.
