Transcript of Invertebrate Animals

Insects are small arthropods that has three pairs of legs, usually one or two pairs of wings and antennas. They also have compound eyes which detect food and to avoid predators. Their bodies are separated into three segments: head, thorax and abdomen.

Arachnids includes a diverse group of arthropods. Their bodies are divided into two parts: cephalothorax and abdomen. Arachnids has four pairs of legs which are attached to the cephalothorax and they have simple eyes. They also have spinneret which produces long, thin strands of silk. NO antennae or wings
Nematodes have soft bodies. they are now waterproof and there are no segments visible on their bodies. They are mainly parasites that live and breed inside other animals and wriggle to go around however they only live in one place. An example is the Hook Worm.
This is a very important group within the invertebrate animals. Arthropods are the name of the biggest group consisting of 4 smaller groups. These also include insects.
What are Invertebrates?
The type of animals that don't have a backbone as part of a bony skeleton.
Invertebrate Animals
Annelids have a long segmented body and chaetae. They normally have long cylindrical bodies covered with a mucus layer which helps them to stop drying out. The most common ones found are the earthworms.
Crustaceans make a very big group of the arthropods. Crustaceans have segments on their body however many of the animals have them hidden under their protective exoskeletons. They are underwater species and most are found in saltwater around the coral reefs. A good example of them is the caridean shrimp.

Difference between invertebrates and vertebrates are invertebrates do not have a backbone or a spinal column.
4 main types of Invertebrates
> Annelids example: large phylum

> Nematodes example: Roundworms

> Molluscs example: snails, clams, or squids

> Arthropods example: shrimp
And finally the Video!
Molluscs have soft shells to protect themselves from water. There are no segments visible on the body and they creep on foot from place to place. They are mainly herbivores however are carnivores and are even venomous.
Myriapods are land creatures and have numerous amounts of legs to walk around. There are both carnivorous and herbivorous species. They use there sensitive antennas to go around in dark damp environments. They also have waterproof body covering and a hard exoskeleton for protection.
